Imagine a Life Without Breast Cancer

The 18th Annual Race for the Cure will be held in downtown Little Rock/North Little Rock on Oct. 22, 2011. I am proud to be a part of such an inspiring event. This year's race theme is "Imagine a Life Without Breast Cancer". I certainly hope that there will come a day when we won't have to imagine such a thing, it will be reality!!

Team CrAzY For A Cure is all fired up and ready for you to join us!!!  If you don't have a team and would like to walk with an awesome group of ladies, we'd love to have you join us.  Last year we met up and had breakfast before the race and then carpooled to the race so that we could all meet up in the same general area.  We even had two team members actually RUN in the race last year.

If you are interested in joining our team, you can click this link and go to the official team page then click on join team.  If you've signed up for the race in previous years your info should still be accessible and registration is easy.  If not, it's still easy, just need to add your address, etc. so that your race packet (including official t-shirt) can be mailed to you.  We haven't started on our team shirts this year.  But, I will keep you posted on those.  If you have creative ideas or color suggestions, please feel free to leave me a comment or shoot me an e-mail!

I look forward to be Team Captain again this year and can't wait to see your smiling faces bright and early on race morning!!!

Back to School Part 2 - The Drop Off

If you missed the first part of this post, you can click here to catch up.  But, I left off yesterday with how happy and excited the kids were when they woke up and put on their new clothes, shoes, and grabbed their new backpacks and lunchboxes filled with delicious and nutritious (well, sort of!) food.  They were all geared up and ready to go.  We were all excited and to be honest, we'd done enough prep the night before that the morning went very smoothly.  Lunches were packed the night before, clothes sat out as well.

Once we arrived at our first destination, daycare for Emily (the youngest) she was excited.  She was going into a different class with a new teacher.  She called it the "big gwil" class.  She went right to her new teacher with no hesitation and did great.  She was all smiles as we left to take the big kids to school!  Whew, one down...two to go.  Little did I know that the youngest would be the easiest!

When we got to the Elementary school that my two oldest attend, it was mass chaos, as to be expected on the first day of school.  We parked and walked across.  Of course my kids have to wait in the mornings at two different driveways and their classrooms are at complete opposite hallways from one another.  It makes for a difficult task in trying to get them both to their classrooms at the same time!  Shelby went to her assigned driveway first.  I stayed with her for a minute.  She was a bit nervous and didn't want me to leave her.  Unfortunately I had to take Tyler to the back driveway and time was running out as it was getting close to time for the bell to ring.  I told her I'd take Tyler over to his driveway and get him situated and then come back to check on her.

Tyler and I walked through the school back to the driveway where they wait until the bell rings.  It is a smaller driveway and there isn't a lot of room out there.  Of course we squeezed our way to the back of the line and once we were there, I realized that it would be no small task getting back through to go check on Shelby.  So, I made an executive decision to wait with Tyler who seemed to be getting more nervous by the minute!  He began to say his belly was hurting...pulling out the tricks from last year.  I told him that it was probably just nerves and it'd settle down once he got in class and the nervousness died down.  As we headed into the school, the waterworks started.  He began to cry and ask me if we could leave.  His belly was hurting so bad that he did not think he should stay at school.

They wait in line outside of their classroom and get instruction from their teacher on what to do when they get inside.  This year's Kindergarten teacher encourages parents to NOT come into the classroom.  Say your goodbyes and snap pictures outside the door, as "Quick goodbyes makes for dry eyes".  As I was standing there with Tyler, I spotted Shelby walking into the building.  I walked over to her and told her I loved her and I hoped she had a great day.  As I bent down to give her a kiss, I was totally brushed off.  She has tears in her eyes and said that promised that I would come back and I never did.  So, now I have two children who are crying and one of them is walking in the opposite direction of the other!!

It was at this very moment when I just wanted to sit in the middle of the floor and cry!  But, as a parent, these moments are what makes us who we are.  I stood strong and pulled her out of line and explained to her that this was her 4th year at this school and that she was old enough to sit by herself and wait for the school bell.  Tyler was still nervous and I felt it necessary to wait with him rather than her.  She was still upset and I felt bad, but I had to send her on her way and go back to Tyler.  I told her I'd come down and check on her before I left.

As I went back to Tyler, his teacher was instructing parents to finish their goodbyes so that they could head into the classroom.  At this point he was very upset and crying so hard he was unable to speak.  He kept telling me that he wanted to tell me one more thing.  I felt so bad for the little guy.  He finally managed to get out that he wanted me to peek my head in the window when I went by after checking on Shelby.  I promised him I would do just that.

As he headed into class, I zipped down to the other end of the building only to find that Shelby was already in her class at the teacher was at the front giving instructions for the day.  Shelby has her back to the door, so she never saw that I came to check on her, but her teacher did, so I backed out as not to get into trouble for disrupting her class.  Tyler's classroom is on the way out the door, so I peeked in on him and he was still crying.  He looked up and spotted me, waved and blew me a kiss.  I did the same and turned to leave.

When I reached the car in the parking lot, I broke down.  I cried...A LOT!  I felt horrible that I had let Shelby down and that Tyler was so upset again, even though he'd done this last year.  I just wanted to go grab them out of class, bring them home and smother them with kisses.  I was alone and felt horrible!  It was at that very moment, I realized that each year it will become more and more difficult with three children.  Next year Shelby will be going to Middle School, so I will have children in three different locations.  I just don't know what I will do.  It's going to be a difficult task, to say the least, but I know that I can do ALL things through Christ who gives me strength (Phil 4:13)!!  So, until then I will just do the best that I can and make the tough decisions that have to be made along the way and if I need to cry about them afterward, who says I can't do so in the privacy of my own empty mini-van?!

First Day of School - With LOTS of Pictures

Today is the day that most parents and kids alike look forward to...back to school.  I must admit that I had mixed emotions about the day due to the fact that this was the first summer that I got to actually stay at home with the kids and spend the entire summer with them.  We moved our office back home last year so I work from home now and when the older kids were out of school, I saw no need in sending Emily to daycare every day.  So, we all four enjoyed our days at home.  We had a great routine and it worked perfectly.  Of course there were days when I'd look at the calendar and count down the days until school started back, but for the most party we enjoyed our summer.

Tyler, Shelby, & Emily
Last week we got everything we needed for back to school including clothes and supplies.  We were all pretty excited and I started getting mixed emotions.  I realized that I really enjoyed spending time with them at home, going out to do fun things, and sleeping in!  I quickly came to the conclusion that those would be a thing of the past when school started back.

This morning all three kids woke up excited and ready to conquer the day.  Emily was going back to her preschool/daycare.  She was excited that she'd be in a new class and starting a new adventure with old friends.

Emily was ready to go!
There she goes!
Tyler was going back to Kindergarten this year, so I knew it would be tough on him since there would probably be other kids there who would be nervous and crying since it was their first time in school.  Of course this morning when it was time for pictures, he was all smiles!
Tyler getting ready to go to Kindergarten.
There he goes!
Of course Shelby was super excited about going back to school.  She starts 3rd grade this year and it will also be her last year at Elementary school.  She was excited about getting back to school to see her friends, many of whom she didn't get to see this summer!

There she goes!

So, they were all ready to head out the door and I snapped a group photo of them before we did:
Ready to conquer the world!

I will post how drop off and pick up went tomorrow.  Hopefully pick up will be better than drop off.  I will just let you know that this morning I did not leave the school parking lot before having a melt down in the car.  It was rough...

Stay tuned tomorrow for the adventures of CrAzY Working Mom - Back To School Part 2!

Tyler's 6th Birthday

Yesterday was Tyler's actual birthday.  We spent the day getting school clothes, shoes, etc.  We are now outfitted and supplied for school, which begins on Monday, August 15 for our children.  I don't know who is more excited, Mom or the kiddos.  ;)

Since yesterday was his birthday, we saved his "big" gift and a few others for yesterday and didn't give them to him at his party.  One of them was a cowboy hat that he'd been asking for every time we shopped at our favorite store, Hays.

All smiles in his new cowboy hat!
He opened his new hat and then he got another package that had some t-shirts in it.  He seemed very excited.  He had spent his birthday money at Wal-Mart so he was a bit preoccupied with opening those packages and playing with them.  When we asked him if he was happy with what he got and he replied, yes.  Shelby (his big sister) knew that he had a bicycle somewhere.  That and the cowboy hat were the only things he'd asked for.  She asked him if he got "everything" he wanted.  He never said anything.  Brien said that he wasn't throwing a fit because he didn't get everything he wanted and he relied, "No, but I'm about to".  So, before we had a fit throwing, we lead him out to the laundry room where his bicyle awaited him along with a new fishing pole!
The new bike and fishing pole!

At the end of the day, we had a birthday dinner at Casa Brava, our favorite Mexican restaurant.  Tyler was adamant about me telling them it was his birthday because he wanted them to sing to him and put whipped cream on his face.  That is their birthday tradition.  We enjoyed a nice dinner with his grandparents.  He took a minute to pose with his "most bestest momma" right before
 THIS happened!!!
Yes, I was creamed!!!  Tyler crawled under the table and wrapped himself around the table legs.  He would NOT come out.  The waitress said that they had to do someone, so being a loving a caring mom, I stepped up to the plate!  Yup, they sang Happy Birthday to Tyler (under the table) and creamed his momma!  It was all in good fun, but I did get it in my nose and ear!  LOL  I think they used a whole can on my face!  The good thing is that Tyler shared his dessert with me.  What a guy!

Happy Birthday Tyler!

Today is the birthday of my middle child and my only son, Tyler. He is six years old today.

Six years ago today, I was blessed with this wonderful gift:
Tyler Matthew Black was born at 10:58 AM
He weiged in at a whopping 8lbs and 2oz and 20 3/4" long.

It was love at first sight for all involved!
Happy 6th birthday, Tyler.
We love you,
Mommy & Daddy,
Shelby & Emily!

Ten Reasons Why I Have Neglected This Blog

1. Vacation Bible School kept me busy.  I also had two extra kids all week.  We taught about the Armor of God.  It was a success.  The kids had a blast, and I must admit that I enjoyed it as well.

2. We had a yard sale last week.  YES, during the HOTTEST part of the summer thus far.  It was VERY hot, but we made over $700 so it was a success!! I could NOT have done it without the help from my mother-in-law who spent many hours in the hot selling our "stuff".

3. Rhea Lana's was last week.  Of course that in itself didn't take my time, but I spent 2.5 hours shopping and got some GREAT deals.  I also spent several weeks gathering, sorting, and tagging my own merchandise to sell.  I ended up with a $447.03 profit so it was also well worth it...and for the record, I made more than I spent there so I still came out ahead!

4. It's HOT!  I know that's not much of an excuse, but dang it...why is it so hot?!

5. Today is Tyler's birthday.  He is 6.  We had his birthday party over the weekend, I have LOTS of pictures to sort through, but just can't find the time (or motivation!).  I did post (and tag) them on facebook for those of you who are my FB friends.

6. School starts on Monday!!! {sarcastic font} I am not the least bit excited!! {/sarcastic font} We have managed to gather up our entire back to school supply list, but we still need to shop for clothes, shoes, etc.  No, I did NOT fight the tax free weekend crowd.  I know the title of this blog says I am CrAzY, but come on...give me a little credit.  Is it really worth saving 8%???

7. I have been in the studio recording a CD.  I know that sounds so professional doesn't it?!  I am in a Gospel group called Southern Grace and we are cutting our first CD.  We will be putting the finishing touches (hopefully) on it tonight.  I am super excited about it.

8. I seriously think that this has been one of the busiest summers on record for The Black family.  We are so blessed, but sometimes I miss those weekends where we laid around all weekend and did nothing!

9. Up until last week we were spending an hour or so a day in the swimming pool.  It's too hot to do anything else.  My pool has been seriously neglected and now looks like Shrek is lurking in the bottom.

10. Dental Appointments last week for the two oldest kids resulted in NO CAVITIES!!!

...I am sorry, I will try to do better.   I have lots to post about:  Vacation Bible School, The Circus, Tyler's Birthday, and lots more...stay tuned.
