If it's quiet, you know they are doing something they shouldn't!

Emily and Tyler had been playing in Tyler's room. They do a lot of that. Tyler is 5 and Emily is 2. They get along so well (most of the time) and when it got quiet in Tyler's bedroom, I knew something was not right. If you have children, you know that we complain when they are loud and worry when they are quiet! I peeked into Tyler's room and this is what I saw:

Yes, that is an economical size of shampoo AND conditioner! She had layered generous amounts of each not only on her head, but also on the car track that she was (not supposed to be) sitting on! Needless to say she got a bath and there was enough soap in her hair to wash her entire body.

Spring Break 2011 - Days 3 & 4

Spring Break flew by and we had a wonderful time although I must admit that by Sunday evening I was counting down the hours until Monday morning.

You'll remember that on Tuesday Tyler came home from his stay with Memaw and Papaw due to feeling bad.  He woke up Wednesday feeling better but still had a low grade fever.  I gave him some Tylenol and he perked up by lunch time.  All three kids and I went to see the movie Rango.  This movie was rated PG, but the language in this movie was NOT age appropriate.  This was a nickelodeon movie, which coupled with a PG rating made me think it would be a great movie for the kids to see while on Spring Break. I was wrong. There was a lot of inappropriate things in this movie including the language. I just don't see the point in making a movie that targets to children and then including foul language and innuendos. But, that's just me. Needless to say, I should have shelled out the extra cash and saw Mars Needs Mom in 3D! Generally speaking Disney is usually a safe bet with the kids.

PhotobucketOn Wednesday night we had church! Since the kids were out on Spring Break they didn't go to AWANA (which they attend at another church). After church, we got to eat pizza and have cake with an awesome birthday girl! Of course the cake was made by one of the greatest cake makers around...who just so happens to be my mother-in-law. She has made every special occasion cake for our family!! The topsy-turvy cake was adorable and tasted just as good as it looked.

Thursday was a laid back day.  The kids and I went to North Little Rock to Mardels.  Tyler has been wanting a cross for his bedroom.  He said that he wanted to put a cross in his room so that he could always look at it and remember that Jesus gave his life so that we could be with him in heaven.  So, when we got there he found two crosses that he liked.  One western cross and one in a picture that looks like a sword that describes the Armour of God so he got both.  The girls opted for stuffed animals and a Veggie Tales Princess Pea castle.

Friday was a fun day filled with cookie baking for the 65 Roses Tour.  I will get a post up on that soon!

Spring Break 2011 - Day 2

Photobucket
The day started off just right.  I got out of bed, poured me a cup of coffee, sat it on my desk and began to work.  I am absolutely LOVING the fact that I can get up a couple of hours before the kiddos and get most of my daily work completed.  Then I have time to spend with them afterward.  Sitting at my desk in my PJs with unbrushed hair and no make up is so rewarding to a mother of three who can work while the kids sleep!!!

Tyler had spent the night with his Memaw and Papaw so the girls and I spent the afternoon doing something he despises...shopping!  But, before we went shopping we did had lunch at the Sushi Cafe.  It is one of my favorites and fortunately my 2.5 year old will eat the fried rice, so we loaded up and headed over.  Shelby and I had our favorite dish, Bom Rolls!  They are avocado, cream cheese, and lobster filled, deep fried deliciousness!  We enjoyed a nice lunch and headed out to do some shopping.  We got a lot of cute dresses and summer things for both girls with our Rhea Lana paycheck.  Since Tyler wasn't with us, we didn't do any shopping for him.

After a day of shopping with the girls, we met up with my sister and her two kids for Fro-Yo (frozen yogurt).  You get your favorite yogurt, and visit the topping bar for any and every topping imaginable from fresh fruit to candy bars and cereal!  The kiddos love it and often add LOTS of toppings to only a little yogurt. The kids ate their yogurt and then chased each other around on the sidewalk in front of the store in the awesome Spring weather!

All in all day 2 of Spring Break was good, with the exception of getting a call at 10pm from my mother in law saying that Tyler was running fever and didn't feel good so he wanted to come home.  GREAT!  Halfway through Spring Break and one man down already!

Spring Break 2011 - Day 1

Photobucket1st day of Spring Break 2011 is under our belts.  The weather was beautiful.  It was in the high 70s but the wind was crazy, though.  This should have kept me from taking the kiddos to the park with fast food.  But, unfortunately it didn't.  We spent most of our lunch chasing napkins, ketchup packets, and the likes.  Once they finished, we played a bit at the park before the oldest had to go get a cavity filled.  She was not a happy camper when she found out that I had scheduled a dental appointment on her spring break!  In fact, I had almost forgotten.  Luckily I write everything down, so I happened to see it in my day planner and nixed the shopping plans for the day and moved them to Tuesday.  We still have to spend our Rhea Lana consignment money!  (See post below for details)

I moved our business office back home at the beginning of the year and have been so happy with this decision!  We have a shop in town with an office and we've worked out of it for a few years now, but it was just too much of a hassle for me to try to take the kids there during breaks, or when they were sick, etc.  So, I moved the "office" back to our home and now I can work from home any time and the kids can keep busy here rather than be cooped up in an "office".  It's also more convenient for hubby when he needs to do paperwork, he can come home and unwind a bit and do it after the kids go to bed rather than having to stay late in town doing work and miss dinner with us.

For the rest of the week, we don't have any "plans" and we're loving it.  The kids are surely enjoying sleeping in!  They didn't get up until almost 9!  Unfortunately I was texted at 7 AM and could not go back to sleep, so I didn't do much sleeping in.  Looking forward to the rest of the week and more impromptu fun!  Stay tuned...

Spring Break

Photobucket
Today is the first "official" day of Spring Break for my kids. But, since they weren't in school on Friday, I guess their break started a bit early. They were both in the doctor's office on Thursday with an unexplainable rash that only affected their arms! Thankfully it only lasted 48 hours and they are both better now. Little Emily never contracted the mysterious illness and we are grateful for that. She always seems to get things way worse than the other two when she gets sick.

We have no real plans for this week.  However on Saturday, we will be helping out at the Family Fun Stop for the 65 Roses Tour's Family Fun Ride!!!  This is a cause that we feel so good about helping.  When we met Aven, we immediately fell in love with her personality.  As it turns out my husband and I had been friends with her mother many years ago when we were younger.  As time went by, we lost contact with her and through God's grace, we were reunited again when we discovered that her sister-in-law has become one of our good friends.  If you have not signed up and you are looking for something to do next Saturday, I would strongly encourage you to do so.  Of course my family will not be riding because we will be passing out cookies and water to the riders as they come in for a rest at the half way point.  But, we will be with you all in spirit!  I am so excited about helping out this year as I know that the tour will be even bigger and better than it was last year.  :)

To read more about Aven's story, you can click here to read what I had to say about last year's event.  There are links to more resources about Cystic Fibrosis and the story of how the "65 Roses" tour came about.  What a great feeling to have knowing that we are doing our part to help out such a wonderful cause while teaching our children that on Spring Break, you don't have to be acting like a fool on a beach somewhere doing things you will never be able to take back.  But, you can be at home, helping out others in your community who have a great need!

Pay Day, Baby!!!

PhotobucketA couple of posts down (last week) I told you that I was consigning for the first time this year.  I am happy to report that today was pay day. I sold ALL of the toys that I took.  Roughly 70% of my merchandise sold for the full asking price.  I did choose the option for all of them to be 1/2 price on the final two sale days.  There were a few things that sold then.  Most things were priced so that if they did go half price I would still be happy with the sale.

I took 134 items to the sale and brought home 11!!  I am very happy with the paycheck I received.  It was a lot of work, but in the end I am very satisfied with the results.  Thanks so much to the wonderful ladies at Searcy Rhea Lana's for making my first consignment a breeze.

Happy Dateiversary, Baby!!!

Photobucket
Brien and Tisha - Then
"So, people have been asking me if we are dating. I am not sure what to tell them. What do you think?" Says a boy to a girl.

"Well, I hope we are dating. I would like that." Says a girl to a boy.

Each month after that on the 12th, that boy would send that girl a pink rose for each month of their "dateiversary".  Once they hit a year, March 12 she got 12 red roses.  She still has that first rose and that first dozen roses.  But, unlike those roses, their love blossomed and flourished.

This was 18 years ago and that boy was my husband and that girl was me. We were fifteen. Now we're 30ish...you do the math. ;)

I thank God each and every day that he sent me my soul mate at such a young age. We have grown up together. With each day I love him more and more. He is such a loving and caring Christian man and I cannot imagine spending my life with anyone else.

I love you with all of my heart and soul, Brien and I can't wait for the next 18+ years.

Rhea Lana's Children's Consignment Sale

Photobucket
Rhea Lana's of Searcy Children Consignment Event is NEXT WEEK!!
March 15-19 at The White County Fairgrounds located at 802 Davis Drive in Searcy, Arkansas. The event will Open daily at 10 AM. I have shopped this event before and NEVER leave disappointed. It's a great opportunity to get high quality clothes at bargain prices.

PhotobucketThis is the first year, however I have consigned. I am very excited about it. Normally I pass all of my children's clothes down to my little sister who has children younger than mine. But, my children are at the age now where I am not being given clothes anymore, so I am having to buy all new clothes, so I thought that I might as well take the clothes that are still in great shape and try to make a little bit of money from them to put toward the purchase of new clothes for my own children.

Just yesterday I had to take Tyler to buy a new pair of shoes. The kid is five years old and already in a size one shoe!! We bought him new shoes in January, size 13 and he has already outgrown them. The trouble with my son's clothes is that most of them are not in "consignable" condition! He wears them out. There are a few shirts and jeans that we will put in the sale because they were either church clothes or he outgrew them so fast he never really wore them.

I still have a lot to do between now and Saturday to get the clothes priced and tagged, but so I had better get busy. This is what I have left. There are 37 pair of jeans in that tote along with several shirts and lots of shoes, receiving blankets, and miscellaneous baby items that we no longer need.
Photobucket

I will also be pricing these baby toys that Emily no longer plays with. She was not happy when she saw that I had removed them from her room. She insisted that she still wanted them, but when I told her she could take the money we make from selling those toys and buy her new ones, she was quickly on board and tried going to her room to bring me more!
Photobucket

Are you consigning at this event, or have you consigned at events past? It seems like lots of work, so I am hoping that all of this hard work has paid off. I know that right now my house is a cluttered mess with all of the things that still need to be priced, but hopefully once it is all gone it will not return and I'll gather a nice check at the end of the sale!

Who Said Being a Mom Was Gonna Be Easy?!

PhotobucketThe older my children get, the more I realize how different each of them are. The oldest is 8 years old and she is so creative and crafty. She is a very imaginative thinker. She is stylish and fun and such a great little singer. She is a whiz in school, in fact she loves school. She used to be very shy and timid, but has really come out of her shell in the last couple of years and has some really great friends. Learning comes easy to her, with a few exceptions. She has always done very well in school and never really had to study because for the most part doing the work in class was enough to get her by.

PhotobucketThe middle child, our only son was just barely five when he started Kindergarten this year. He was very reluctant to go even though he went to daycare/pre-school for 3 years before he started school! He cried for over an hour on the first day of school. I had to walk him to class every day for the first semester. The only things he really likes about school are P.E., lunch, and recess! He used to ask me every day what activity he had and on the days when I told him he had library he would cry and say he didn't want to go to school until it was P.E. day. He is such a boy. He loves to play rough (fight), run, etc. He has a very hard time sitting still. He thrives on structure. He is energetic, fun, and so very loving. He is a true "cowboy" at heart. He loves the outdoors and his favorite past time is horseback riding.

Photobucket
Our youngest, who is two and a half is care free. Literally she has not a care in the world about anything. Well, with the exception of her "blankie" and "cuppie". We broke her from the bottle and sippie cup before she turned one and she turned to a sippie cup to drink her milk. She has since turned it into a paci and using it as a soothing tool instead of a drink mechanism. I know this is not good and I realize I need to break her from it. But, this is so easy on paper (or in this case on screen) but I just haven't psyched myself up enough to actually follow through just yet. She is very articulate and expressive. She speaks like an adult. In fact, one of the teachers at her daycare informed me that they think she's a grown up in a kid's body! She will put you in your place very quickly and nothing slips by her. One of her favorite things to say is, "Do you hear me?"!! She potty trained very quickly and easily. She is loves all things Dora and Minnie-Mouse and her favorite food is cheese dip. She prefers, however to eat it with a spoon and not on a chip.

PhotobucketMy point in this post is that they are all different. We cannot discipline them all the same because their needs are differently. We cannot compare them academically, socially, or emotionally because they are so different. This is something that I struggle with, especially with the older two who are attending the same Elementary school. They are not on the same level academically and they most likely never will be. The oldest started school later because her birthday falls in November. The middle child was only a few days shy of the cut off for Kindergarten so it seemed like we just cut the cord and sent him to school. With every decision I've made with him this year, I wonder is it the right one. Sometimes I look for that instruction manual that will tell me each step I need to make but, it has yet to be found. It's probably under that big pile of laundry!

Needless to say, the middle child's first year of school has been vastly different than the oldest. Enjoyable at times, but at others (like today) at the end of the day I am just left with a sigh wondering if we've made the right decisions as parents. Only time will tell...
