Randomness

CrAzY Working Mom - is enjoying a lazy Saturday at home with her family! They are far and few in between, so I am taking full advantage of it.

Are you a fan of CrAzY Working Mom on Facebook?

CrAzY Working Mom on Facebook

I enjoyed an awesome night with some great friends seeing comedian, Tim Hawkins in Little Rock. This guy is hilarious. I haven't laughed so hard in a long time...maybe not EVER! My face hurt by the time we got home. It was an amazing performance.

Last night, my best friend Becca came to spend the night with us while she's visiting from Maryland. We always have a fun time together. We went bowling with the kids and then had some pizza. She and I stayed up and watched quite possibly one of the worst movies I'd even had the misfortune of seeing...The Box! It is on it's way back to Netflix as we speak. Don't waste your time if you've not seen it. It is reeeeeallllly bad!

This leads us to today. I have gathered all of the consignments I am taking to the Searcy Rhea Lana sale next month. It's my first time to ever consign and I'm pretty excited about it. I usually give away all of the kids clothes, but I realized that this is a great way for me to earn a little money from them to buy some new clothes.

Teachers Make Cheap Babysitters!

Teachers' hefty salaries are driving up taxes, and they only work 9 or 10 months a year! It's time we put things in perspective and pay them for what they do - babysit!

We can get that for less than minimum wage.

That's right. Let's give them $3.00 an hour and only the hours they worked; not any of that silly planning time, or any time they spend before or after school. That would be $19.50 a day (7:45 to 3:00 PM with 45 min. off for lunch and plan. That equals 6 1/2 hours).

Each parent should pay $19.50 a day for these teachers to baby-sit their children. Now how many students do they teach in a day...maybe 30?
So that's $19.50 x 30 = $585.00 a day.

However, remember they only work 180 days a year!!! I am not going to pay them for any vacations.

LET'S SEE....

That's $585 X 180= $105,300 per year. (Hold on! My calculator needs new batteries).

What about those special education teachers and the ones with Master's degrees? Well, we could pay them minimum wage ($7.75), and just to be fair, round it off to $8.00 an hour. That would be $8 X 6 1/2 hours X 30 children X 180 days = $280,800 per year.

Wait a minute -- there's something wrong here! There sure is! The average teacher's salary (nation wide) is $50,000. $50,000/180 days = $277.77/per day.
30 students = $9.25. 6.5 hours = $1.42 per hour per student--a very inexpensive baby-sitter and they even EDUCATE your kids!)

WHAT A DEAL!!!!

Tyler's First Spelling Test

My kindergarten son had his very first spelling test today.  He worked hard last week to learn the words.  Tyler and working hard aren't words that flow together freely.  It takes LOTS of effort to get that boy motivated!  He would much rather be playing outside riding his bicycle or inside his room with his matchbox cars and monster trucks than doing homework.

In fact, we've been doing sight words for a couple of weeks now.  He has to recognize the colors and numbers (zero to ten).  I understand sometimes it takes kids a bit longer to catch on.  Tyler struggles with the color black.  For most kids this wouldn't be a problem, but for Tyler since it is his last name, I feel like it's something he should already know!!!  So, I've been really drilling him on this one...and he STILL struggles with it.

Last night when we had our practice test, he made a 100.  This was with no help from me.  So, I said a prayer for him today that he'd pull through and not cave under pressure.  This is what he brought home:

Photobucket
Yes, he made a 100 on his very first spelling test. I am so proud of him. He is a smart boy, we just struggle to keep him interested in his school work. His favorite part of school is lunch, recess, and PE. In fact, I quit telling him when he had library because it put him in a bad mood before he even went to school!

I am so grateful that he has a wonderful teacher. I don't know how she does it, but she does and she does it well! Thanks, Ms Amy for all you do to keep Tyler on track.

Happy Valentine's Day!

Welcome KARK 4 Today Viewers, Giveaway Listed Here!

As a mother of three, I am constantly looking for new, innovative products that can help me save time and money.  Fortunately, as a mommy blogger, I am lucky enough to work with companies to try out products that will do just that.  I have been asked to review the following items and talk about them on local NBC Affiliate, KARK 4 Today.  If you have come to visit from watching the interview, HI!!  It's nice to have you.  I hope that you enjoy your visit to CrAzY Working Mom.  Bookmark this site, add it to your feed subscriptions and then follow us on Facebook, and Twitter while you're here! At the end of this post, look for details on how YOU can snag one of the reviewed items for yourself!

Now, I present you with THE GOODS:

The Baby B'Air Infant Flight Vest is a vest that straps on your infant much like a life vest that you would use on a boat. It is placed over the child's head, and secured by adjustable straps on both sides under the baby's arms. The third strap comes from behind, between the baby's legs, and buckles to the front with another adjustable strap. The excess straps Velcro neatly to the vest so that there are no loose straps.
Photobucket
Due to FAA regulations, the vest can not be worn during take off or landing. But, once in the air, you simply feed your seat belt through the back of the vest and buckle your belt as normal. During the flight, you can read, eat, or even nap with the convenience that your baby will be securely fastened.

If you're a traveling parent, I would say this is a must have item.  Although the flight attendants may give you grief about wearing it, there is a tag stitched right on the vest stating the FAA regulations stating that it can be worn during cruising altitude, but not during take off and landing.

This product retails for $34.95 and is available at Baby B'Air.com.

FRESHHanger is the easy, effective clothes deodorizer that requires no washing or dry cleaning! It is proven 6X more effective than airing out your clothes. By adding Freshhanger to your clothes hanger, you turn your plain ole ordinary hanger into a clothes deodorizer that will keep your clothes fresher longer. It will also prolong the life of your clothes and save time and money because it will reduce the amount of time they need to be washed after each wear.

PhotobucketHow does it work, you ask? The FRESHhanger is made of a specially formulated activated carbon. It is the same material, in fact, that the space program uses to clean air and water!  This carbon absorbs odors from your clothes better than just airing them out.

To use FRESHhanger, you simply slide it over any existing hanger in your closet. It includes date stickers to help you remember what month you placed your garment on the FRESHhanger as they should be changed out every six months.

Another plus that I found to this product is that by adding it to your clothes hanger, it makes your items virtually slip proof! It adds grip to the hanger and makes it stay put! THAT is definitely a time saver for me. Since hubby only pulls out a suit and tie for a funeral or wedding, the FRESHhanger will be a perfect fit for those items in our household. He is also a big hunter, so those things that he refuses to let me wash with the normal laundry so he doesn't go into the woods smelling like clean linen, I can hang his hunting clothes on this product so as not to make the rest of the closet smell of doe urine or dirt.

I know that I've peaked your interest with this product, so here's the scoop: they come in 5, 10, and 20 packs and retail for $14.99, $27.99, and $49.99 respectively. They can be purchased directly from the website, FRESHhanger.com

snack trap assortment lids
I have used these products with my youngest two children and I must admit that they beat the plastic baggy hands down!!!  There is virtually no mess with most products when using this product.  Of course, you can get the crumbs or residue from the food sometimes when the cups are turned upside down (and you KNOW they will be!)  I am proud to say that this product was invented by a mom.  Although I'd be more proud to say it was invented by ME, it most certainly was not.  But, I am ever so grateful to  Christine Moss for her invention.

The snack trap now comes with a lid assortment pack ($3.99) that comes with a replacement lid, snap on lid, and sip lid. The sip lid is awesome because it turns ANY stack trap into a spill proof cup for your toddler! So, you'll always have a cup on hand if you've got the snack trap and sip lid accessory!

This product retails for $4.99 and is available at snacktrap.com, or at retailers throughout North America and the wonderful folks over at snack trap have extended a 20% discount to the viewers of KARK 4 and readers of CrAzY Working Mom.  Simply enter the discount code:  thanks2010 during check-out and the discount will be applied to the entire order!

Snowed in - plenty of milk and bread, short on patience!!!

Photobucket
Shelby up to her knees in snow!!!
7 - the total minutes I was alone in the bathroom last night as I tried to soak in the bath.  It was not even enough time for the tub to completely fill!  My 2 year old daughter said, "Ewww, Mommy!"  I asked her why she says ewww when I undress and she informed me that I was "gross".  Well, if that's not diet motivation, I don't know what is!

3 - the total days I have been snowed in with my children!!

7 - total inches of blessed snow.

0 - the amount of patience that I have at this point in time!!!  I have to get out of this house today.  Do you hear me?!?!?!  I HAVE to get out!

Snow Day...AGAIN!!!

Photobucket
Hubby's pancake creation!
I woke up this morning to hubby cooking breakfast! He went to work early this morning, but ended up calling it a day very early on because we started getting snow. It came down very quickly and immediately it started sticking to the roads. Emily and I had gotten up when he did, but we laid back down and fell asleep watching Mickey Mouse Clubhouse on Disney.

Needless to say we are all snowed in today.  As it stands, the weather guys are predicting we may be snowed in for a few days.  In the northern part of the state of Arkansas, there is already a foot of snow.  Now, that's not much to you northerners, but down here in the south, that is a lot of snow!  We're having a lazy day in our pajamas watching movies.  I made the mistake of letting my hubby pick out movies yesterday, so he came home with five movies...all action flicks!  We're watching S.A.L.T right now, followed by the A-Team.

Emily's trip to the doctor yesterday resulted in an ear infection.  She's on a ten day antibiotic, so hopefully she'll feel better quickly.  Thanks to those of you with kind words and prayers for "the boss".

Have a great day, y'all!

The Boss

Photobucket
Emily was home from daycare yesterday because she's had a pretty bad cough.  Sunday evening and Monday morning she just didn't act like she felt that great so I kept her home with me.  After we dropped the big kids off at school, she seemed fine so I didn't call the doctor's office.

This morning she woke up coughing worse and now has a bump behind her right ear which I am guessing is probably a swollen lymph node.  So, she's home with me again today.

This is the second week for me to be "working from home" so to speak.  I moved our office from the shop in town back to the house so that in occasions like this, I could still work and be home with sick children.  We are also expecting "significant amounts of snow accumulation" tomorrow so it looks like they will all three be here tomorrow.

I can't get Emily in to see the doctor until 3, so I have been doing a little bit of office work and house work.  She has found herself a little roost in the spindles between the office and living room.  She calls that "her spot".  She plopped down there this morning and told me that she was "in chawge".  It was too cute.  I am glad to have some company.  I am not sure how it will work out this summer with all three of them home, but I am going to give it a try.  As long as I can get Emily back in to daycare when school starts back, I plan on keeping her home during the summer as well.  We'll just have to see.  Spring break will be a good time to try it out.

For now we're prepared for the expected snow.  Emily and I got milk, bread, and coffee creamer this morning.  Bring it on, baby!!!  What's the weather like in your neck of the woods?

Let's hear it for the Green Lawn Packers!

Photobucket
Last night as we watched Super Bowl XLV (and don't ask me which one that is because I can most certainly not read Roman numerals!!), my 8 year old daughter asked me which team I was cheering for.  I informed her that it really didn't matter to me.  She then proceeded to tell me that she wanted to cheer for "Green Lawn".

Looks like I'm not the only one ready for spring!

Go Green Lawn's!

It's not the key that's dumb, it's the owner!!!

PhotobucketI have outed myself already on Facebook, so I thought I might as well come clean to my faithful blog followers as well. As previously mentioned I lost the keys to my van sometime Thursday night after we came in from a basketball game.  (GO CUBS!! Woot Woot!!)   If you're not up to speed, I'll give you a minute to jump down a post and read all about the fact that I got up Friday and could not find my keys so I couldn't get the kids to school on time.  When hubby brought the spare key to me, the van started but then immediately died.

Needless to say I chalked Friday up as a loss and it was a good thing because due to bad weather, school let out early anyhow.  Since it was snowing and sleeting, hubby never went out to see what was wrong with the van Friday night.  Fast forward to Saturday...we had a birthday party for my niece and I told hubby he needed to get out there and see if it would start for him.  He took the spare key out and unfortunately he was not able to get it to start.

PhotobucketSince we were obviously in a predicament and needed the car, he and my FIL stayed home and worked on it while my MIL and I took the kids to the birthday party.  When we got home, I informed him that someone at the birthday party said that the spare key might not work for the ignition, only the doors.  Since my van key opens the doors, back hatch, and has a lock and panic button we thought this might be the case.  So, the search was on (again!) for my keys.  I emptied out trash cans, checked coat pockets, and even went as far as to search the fridge.  They were nowhere to be found.  Fortunately, a second set of eyes, scoured my purse...the one which I had completely dumped out into the floor and searched through a day earlier!  Low and behold, that second set of eyes asked, "Are these your keys?!"

YES!!!  They WERE my keys.  They were in the side pocket of my purse.  I never even unzip this pocket, so I have no idea why my keys were there.  But, fortunately they were and I am so glad that my Mother-In-Law broke her cardinal rule and looked into another woman's purse.  ;)  Hubby took the key out to the van and guess what?!  It immediately started!!!

PhotobucketThere you have it...after several hours of trying to diagnose a problem that just wasn't there, hubby was very happy to realize that the spare key we had only unlocked the doors.  It will not drive you anywhere.  If you try to use it to drive, the anti-theft kicks in and doesn't let you go anywhere.  It kills the engine!!  So, what good is a key that will not work in the ignition?!  I have no idea, but the difference in the price versus one of the ones with all of the buttons (and secret micro-chip) is unbelievable!!

So, with this, I admit my stupidity and absent mindnedness...and I do this so that YOU can laugh at ME and you can say (to yourself of course because I am the only one dumb enough to admit it out loud!) this sounds like something I would do!

*slaps self on forehead!*

This is the Stuff!!!

Yesterday morning was one of those mornings when I should have just stayed in bed!! I got up watching the weather because we are expecting more snow and ice. Some schools in surrounding counties were making decisions to close in fear of getting the kids to school and the roads getting really bad thus not being able to get out but not our school district. It was business as usual. It was (and still is) VERY cold out. Hubby always leaves first, so as he was headed out the door I asked him to start my car. Usually he does, but sometimes he gets in such a hurry he forgets.

Photobucket

As we were headed out about 15 minutes later, we were all bundled up and I realized that the car wasn't started. I'll admit, I was ticked off at hubby for not starting it after I had specifically asked him. I started digging through the bottomless pit I call a purse and could not find the keys anywhere!!! I was already agitated, so this did not help my cause. The kids were in the car and it was so cold out you could see your breath. I went back inside and searched in the usual places where I put the keys if they are not in the purse. They were nowhere to be found! By this time I start really getting annoyed. I called hubby thinking that he'd taken the keys out to start the van and then forgot to start it. He did not have the keys but offered to bring the spare from the office. By this time, the kids were for sure going to be late, we surely did not have time to wait on him to bring a spare key.

I did a bit more searching and finally decided that wherever the keys were, I was not going to find them in the state I was in. I returned a call to hubby and 30 minutes later he returned home with a spare key. The kids and I jumped back into the car and were ready to finally get to school. I started the van and as I started to back out, it would not move. I saw hubby backing out of the driveway. I looked down to see why we weren't moving to realize that the car had died. When I tried to start it again, no luck. I turned it over three times and it just would NOT start!!! By this time I realized that it was just not meant for us to leave!! I've never had a minute's trouble with this car, so I am not sure what the problem was.

We stayed home and as it turns out, school was let out early (at 1). I have searched high and low for those keys, but have still turned up empty. But, what is the most annoying for me is that I was the last one to drive it, so I can't blame it on hubby!!!

So, with the crazy morning, I was reminded of a new song by one of my favorite Christian artists Francesca Batistelli. It's called "This Is The Stuff". Lyrics are on the screen, but it starts out "I lost my keys in the great unknown, and call me please 'cause I can't find my phone!"

This is the stuff that drives me crazy
This is the stuff that's getting to me lately
In the middle of my little mess
I forget how big I'm blessed

This is the stuff that gets under my skin
But I've got to trust You know exactly what You're doing
It might not be what I might choose but this is the stuff You use

To break me of impatience
Conquer my frustrations
I've got a new appreciation

It's not the end of the world

Yesterday as I was living those lyrics, I started singing the song and I realized that losing your car keys can make you feel like it's the end of the world, but if we just stop and take a minute this reveals our true character....how we act under pressure.  My kids and I discussed it after the fact, how I reacted to this situation.  God was testing me, and friends I will be the first to admit that I FAILED!  But, he is a forgiving God and I think that through my misfortunes and bad choices, my kids can learn that we are all weak and we all have our moments of weakness, but in the end as long as we realize that we have done wrong and ask for forgiveness, we will be forgiven!!
On a lighter note, my little Emily also took a shot at singing this song, so I thought I'd post it here for your enjoyment:

Disney's New Releases

Since we got a little bit of snow and ice yesterday, I am so glad we had some new Disney Movies to keep the kids occupied. On Tuesday, Minnie lovers everywhere, (or at least one little girl in the Black household) were very pleased upon the arrival of Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Minnie's Masquerade (with Mickey Mote). If you're not familiar with the Mickey Mote, it's the greatest thing since sliced bread! It's a Mickey shaped, child friendly remote control! By choosing the Discovery mode in the movie's menu screen your child, after a quick and easy set up for the Mickey Mote (it's easy, I promise!!) will be responding to questions throughout the movie about scenes they just watched by pressing one of the four color-coded buttons on the device: a yellow star, green circle, orange triangle or blue square. Discovery mode features two levels of play to grow with your child. The Mickey Mote can be used with any Disney Preschool DVD that includes the Discovery Mode feature. To date there are more than 11 titles that can be used with the remote control, just take a look at the back of the package to make sure.

PhotobucketMy little Emily is a HUGE Mickey Mouse fan, but especially loves Minnie Mouse. So, when we receive a copy of Minnie's Masquerade for review, she was happy that SHE got a video to watch. She was especially excited to find that this DVD features four playful Minnie-themed adventures previously seen on the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse TV show, a never-before-seen episode, and a free paper mask with festive embellishments that kids can personalize. Of course my princess enjoyed watching Minnie with her very own masquerade mask. In this episode Minnie needs some help getting everything ready for her party including making royal crowns for their costumes, searching for Sir Goofalot’s lost shoe, stringing up paper lanterns and much, much more. At the ball, Professor Von Drake hosts the great Clubhouse Costume Show and gives out prize ribbons to all the friends who have dressed up in some funny and fancy costumes.

If you have a pre-schooler, or even a pre-schooler and a couple of Elementary schoolers, this one is a must have for your collection! With the addition of the Mickey-Mote and the customizeable mask, it will be an enjoyable day for all.

As a way of saying Thank You to the loyal readers of CrAzY Working Mom, here is the link to a printable $5 off coupon toward your purchase of this title! But hurry, offer expires on February 14, 2011.

PhotobucketAlso available this week from Disney, The Beverly Hills Chihuahua 2 Blu-ray™ Combo Pack! In this action packed sequel Papi and Chloe return to the big screen with a bang. They tie the knot and have a litter of puppies, thus making their family and adventures much bigger. Although the cast changed a bit from the first movie, George Lopez is still the voice of Papi and as he is tossed into the role of fatherhood, he learns that sometimes being a parent is much harder than just being a "grown up". This movie is a great tale of family sticking together and proving that no matter who you are or how big you are, you can be a hero!

This DVD is packed with bonus features including a sneak peak at Sharpay's Fabulous Adventure (EEEEK!!!), The Music Video to “This is My Paradise” By Bridgit Mendler, and Blooper Faux Paws (my personal favorite!). I am a sucker for Bloopers, so I thought I'd share some with you here.

If you're looking to purchase this title, a $10 off coupon is available for the Blu-Ray/DVD Combo pack by clicking this graphic:
