Bethleham and Main - A Christmas Play

I just wanted to take a minute and invite all of my local readers to the Christmas play at our church. Crosby Baptist Church will be holding two performances of Bethleham and Main - A Christmas Play on Saturday, December 18, 2010 and Sunday December 19, 2010. Performance times are 7pm on Saturday night and 6pm on Sunday night.  If you need a ride or directions, please feel free to leave a comment, e-mail, or message me (via FB or text).  I will gladly make sure that you can get to one of the performances.  Shelby, Tyler, and myself are all taking part in the play.  So, we hope that you can come out and receive a blessing!  Thanks to our play director, Charity Morris for all of her hard work on this production!  It is coming together so nicely and I know she has been under a lot of stress but these kids are working hard and they will knock your socks off on performance night, I just know it!!!  I can't wait.

The Day I Became A Mother

On this day eight years ago I gave birth to my first child. I became a mother for the first time. I must say that it was one of the happiest days of my life. The others being the day I gave birth to my second and third children, and the day I wed my husband. I have many blessings in my life, but by far my family is my most cherished.  This morning as I was fixing Shelby's hair I explained this to her, that 9 years ago I was not a mom.  Just a wife!  Her response:  "That's creepy!"

Shelby was born in 2002 the day after thanksgiving, or black Friday as it is commonly referred. She was actually born ON her due date which is a very rare occasion. Thanksgiving was good. I ate more than my fair share of dinner. My sister in law made her famous SPICY mexican chicken casserole. I ate WAY too much. I was up a big part of the night thinking that I was just having indigestion from the casserole. I could drink water and get heart burn at this point. So, anyhow I was up doing e-mail playing on the internet (I hadn't discovered the wonderful world of blogging as of yet) and I started having a few mild contractions. I dismissed it later as gas pains.

My sister and I had big plans to go to wal-mart for the "Blitz" sale. They had a Christmas tree half price. Since I had thrown away my old ratty one the year before, it was VERY important to me that I get a tree for my soon to be baby girl. She must have a beautiful tree for her first Christmas. I was up around 4ish. I woke my sister up and we got ready for the adventure. I also woke hubby up because he had not been hunting all year because he was afraid he'd be in the stand when I went into labor. So, he got all his gear gathered up and headed to the woods as we headed to the battle grounds of wal-mart!

We were there about an hour before the sale actually started. We headed back to where they had the trees wrapped in black shrink wrap. We found our place and prepared for that moment when the shrink wrap was to be cut and we'd grab ours and proceed to the the check out counter. While we were waiting, we made friends with the folks around us. They helped us time contractions that started out at 10 minutes apart and quickly progressed to five minutes apart. Lots of the women there were concerned and told me that maybe I should go on to the hospital. I know that was just a ploy to get me away from the trees so they could have them all to themselves!!! Anyhow, when the time arrived they cut the shrink wrap from the trees and the nice people that were timing contractions with me turned into demons. There were people climbing on top of people and big Christmas tree boxes flying over my head. My sister helped me to get a box into our cart and we got outta there. That was the first and ONLY time that I have ever been stupid enough to go to a Friday after thanksgiving sale! We made it to the hospital. Hubby made it there, although when we called him he was hysterical. He came straight from the deer stand to the hospital. He was fully dressed in camo when he arrived by my side at the hospital.

Little did we know that we'd be there for a while. At 5:02pm our first little bundle of joy arrived after a long 10 hours of labor. It was worth every hour, every minute. I would do it again in a heartbeat for her. If someone is out there reading this that does not have children, you cannot understand the love that you can have for another human being. Children are the greatest gift that God can give us. Don't get me wrong, I love my husband and I always will. But, the love you have for your children is so different. I look at them and think to myself, WOW I helped to create this life. How in the world could I have had a hand in something so perfect!? (Then they wake up, but while it lasts, it's a good feeling)
Photobucket
So, on this special day, I hope that my daughter Shelby has the bestest of birthdays!  You are special and always will be special to your family.  I love you to the top of the moon and back, sweet girl!

Reflections

This has been a wonderfully blessed week.  I am so thankful that I have such a loving and wonderful family.  Unfortunately we've had a sickness hit us.  Brien is on the couch as we speak...well, as I speak.  He cannot.  His voice is gone.  Emily has a terrible cough as well as a runny nose and the other two do as well.  She comes to me and tells me that her nose "is leaking"!  We'll have to see if we can find a good plumber (maybe her daddy???) to fix that!  Thankfully I am well.  I am keeping the hand sanitizer close by and contemplating getting some hospital masks!

Right now I am sitting in the recliner drinking a hot cup of coffee and I was contemplating the fact that if I drink coffee after breakfast, that I consider myself old.  I remember my Mom used to drink coffee all day long and I thought it was so strange.  Now, I am "strange" I guess.  I was cleaning up the kitchen after lunch and I just thought that a hot cup of french vanilla coffee would hit the spot.  So, I brewed a pot just for myself!

PhotobucketI did not do any "Black Friday" shopping this year.  In fact, I don't plan on ever doing it.  I think it's just crazy!  In my humble opinion, you generally tend to get what you pay for.  Most of the time those "bargains" aren't really bargains after all.  I have began my Christmas shopping, but still have some to do.  Shelby and I did have a "girl's day" yesterday.  We went to the mall and she made a Build-A-Bear.  She got a Christmas outfit for her new friend, Sara as well as a Rapunzel dress and wig as we were going to go see the movie Tangled.  It was a GREAT movie and I plan to write a review (fingers crossed!!) later on this week.  Tomorrow I will draw for the winner of the Tangled contest as well.  I have NOT forgotten.

We did put up our Christmas tree on Friday.  We also hung the stockings, but didn't do much else along the lines of decorating.  So, once I'm finished I will post a picture of our tree.  I need to wrap some gifts and put them under the tree also!   I am so excited about the holiday season this year!!!  We have so many fun traditions and many more to make.  What are some of your favorite things about the holidays?

So are you eating a turkey sandwich as you read this post? I trust that everyone had a great holiday and ate way more than one consume in a week much less in one day. I have so much to be thankful for and each and every participant in LATSOF is one of those reasons. Thank you all so much for your support and great photos each week. Thankful

Photobucket
This time of year we are all reflective of the things we are most thankful for as we gather with friends and family who we either care deeply for or are forced to be cooped up with for a specific amount of time and pretend to have an interest in their lives.  Either way, I know that we all have lots to be thankful for on this Thanksgiving holiday.  I of course have MANY!!!  Since I have been neglectful of posting here as of late, I thought I'd post some things for which I am thankful.  They are in no specific order.

-  First and foremost I am thankful that God sent his Son, Jesus to die on the cross for my sins.  Without him, I would have NONE of the following things to be thankful for!

-   I have a wonderfully loving husband who is honest, humble, truthful, and loves the Lord, his children, and his wife.

-  I have three beautiful and healthy children who also love the Lord, and their parents.

-  I have a house that is heated and cooled, safe and there is a warm, comfy bed to lay my head at night.

-  I am blessed to be in a wonderful church surrounded by loving, caring, giving, God fearing Christians.  I cannot imagine being anywhere else.  I truly love each and every member of the church that I attend (Crosby Baptist...HOLLA!) and I love serving alongside them in the name of the Lord.

My sister, Mandy who is strong in her Christian faith.  I love her so much and I don't think she knows how much I look up to her.  Although this is figuratively speaking since she's shorter than me, her advice and wisdom has always meant so much to me.

-  I live in a free country where anyone can say what they want about anyone or anything.  Where I can worship my god freely!  Although sometimes people are a little too extreme with that right and hurt others in doing so, it is a right that many of us take for granted on a daily basis.

Coffee...I don't know where I'd be without it some days!!!

Teachers -  I have been blessed that my children have had wonderful, caring teachers and I am so thankful for their dedication to my children.

My Friends, especially my B/F/F for 20 years, Becca.  She recently started her own blog to document her journey with diabetes.  You should check it out.  :)  Single White Diabetic dot com

Family (not already mentioned here)...wonderful sisters (in-laws), brothers (in-laws) etc.  They all hold a special place in my heart and I appreciate what they do for me and my family.  Even though we may not see each other daily, know that I do love you and think of you daily!!!

Drive Throughs - car wash, fast food, dry cleaning, etc.  They are great for mother's with children.

Pay at the Pump - same concept as drive throughs...when you have to fill up your gas tank and have three children, the thought of getting them out to go inside to pay for gas will make you drive OUT OF YOUR WAY to find a pay at the pump station.  In the end you WILL save money due to the fact that if you take them into a convenience store they WILL want something.

-  My mother-in-law is wonderful.  I love her to pieces.  She lives closer than my mom and is more involved in the upbringing and lives of my children.  For that I am eternally grateful.  The lord has blessed me with her and I could not be more grateful for that!!!  Don't get me wrong, I do love my momma, but in her absence Momma Martha sure fills the void.

-  My nieces and nephews.  I have quite a few...too many to name.  But, I sure do love 'em all to pieces.  I don't get to spend nearly as much time with them as I'd like to but I do love and appreciate them.

My voice.  The Lord has blessed me with a talent and I am so proud to use it to glorify his name!

Facebook -  although these days it seems like it drags me away from blogging (and sometimes other things I should be doing) I am thankful that I can keep up with friends and family via FB.

Soldiers our the backbone of our freedom...I am thankful from the bottom of my heart for their sacrifices:  being away from their family during holidays such as this and those who pay the ultimate price for our freedom!

-  The sound of my children.  MOST of the time I am very thankful for this...some days I have to stop and remind myself how much I should appreciate their sounds.  ;)

-  My straightening iron (for my hair).  Seriously!

Internet!

-  A small business that is staying afloat (barely!) in this horrid economy!  (Brien Black Plumbing 501-230-6492!!!_

-  Christmas is right around the corner.  I love CHRISTmas...celebrating the birth of a KING!!!

Cell phones which can be VERY annoying at times say when you're at the doctor's office and have to listen to other people's conversations, or driving behind someone who is not paying attention to the road...they are a great tool to have.  I have lost an Iphone and Blackberry to my 2 year old daughter this past year and I am using a "dumb" phone instead of a smart phone.  I am NOT happy about it.  But, so goes life.  Until it's time to renew the contract, that's what we'll do!

Photobucket
- My Canon camera!  I have captured so many priceless moments (like this one) with it...and I am so happy with the purchase of it.  Please note that she was NOT wearing skates...just trying to help Emily walk under the Limbo stick. Yes, she did have a black eye because of the fall. Thankfully she turned her head or she probably would have broken her nose.

...I have so much more to be thankful for, but it is time to head out to church so I will close for now.  I hope you all have a wonderfully blessed Thanksgiving.

Feld Entertainment Presents Illuscination

I am happy to tell you that "The Circus" is coming to town!  I refer to Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey as "The Circus" because there is no other like them.  We've attended many Feld Entertainment Productions including Disney on Ice, High School Musical on Ice, and Monster Jam!  They never disappoint.  We're always amazed at the amount of work and time that goes in to these performances.  It's great family entertainment and I'll have to admit that most of the time I think that I enjoy the show as much (okay probably more!!) than the kids.

Beginning on Thursday, December 2 and running through Sunday December 5, 2010,  Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey® Presents Illuscination, a fantasy-filled world where thrills, wonderment and unbelievable magic intersect with the outlandish fun of the circus. Illuscinator, and host of this all new Gold edition, David DaVinci along with performers from all over the world invite audiences across the U.S. to join them on a mystifying adventure where they will witness eye-popping illusions and thrilling circus acts all at The Greatest Show On Earth® at the Verizon Arena in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Photobucket
DaVinci, who set a world-record in 2007 with a free-diving card trick, thrills audiences with eye-popping illusions and mind-blowing transformations, all mysteriously interwoven throughout the show. Circus goers’ eyes will be transfixed on the center of the ring as they witness international acts that astonish and amaze Children Of All Ages. These unbelievable acts include, Viktoriya and Widny, the Empresses of the Air, who execute a never--before-seen extreme hair hang, the KungFu Kings who combine mixed martial arts with mind-boggling strength to twist solid metal poles around their bodies and dive through hoops of razor-sharp sabers, blindfolded! Anton and Alex, The Barons of Balance, reveal amazing agility as they effortlessly leap from one thumb-thin low-wire to another. Flying high and flipping furiously on the teeter board and the Russian bar are no other than the Salsations!

The action at Illuscination begins an hour before show time at the All Access Pre-show FREE to all ticket holders, where you can meet Ringling Bros. performers and animals, learn circus skills and start creating a lifetime memory for your family before the show even starts!

You can reserve your tickets by clicking this link to the Verizon Arena Website and click on which day and showtime you prefer. Tickets on opening night will be only $11 and kids tickets for every performance are only $10!!

Thank you for your interest in this post.  If you plan to leave a comment to links or photos about elephant cruelty or the likes, please note that it will be deleted so do not waste your time or mine.

*Please Note:  I will be given tickets for my family to attend this event in exchange for posting this information for my readers as well as reviewing the show after we attend.  No other compensation has been given to me or any other member of my family.  Any claims made my Feld Entertainment or Ringling Bros and Barnum & Bailey should be validated by those companies as I am not responsible.  The opinions expressed in this post are my own and have not been influenced by any outside source.  To read my full disclosure policy, you can do so by clicking here.

Domino's Pizza Tracker Giveaway (Contest Closed)

PhotobucketFor those of you who are pizza lovers, I have been given the opportunity to work with Domino's Pizza in conjunction with their newest audible feature, the Pizza Tracker. The official press release is below:

Domino’s Pizza, Inc. (NYSE: DPZ), the recognized world leader in pizza delivery, has given its revolutionary Pizza Tracker™ tool an auditory upgrade! Customers who order online from Domino’s will not only see – but hear their order being made, thanks to the introduction of Talking Tracker.

After an order is placed, either by phone or online at www.dominos.com, customers who utilize Pizza TrackerTM will now be able to choose from six themes – each one giving the interface a distinct look and voice. Depending on the theme, Talking Tracker might sing, cheer or even sweet talk customers the status of their order from the moment it’s prepared to the second it’s out the door or ready for pickup.

Talking Tracker is also compatible with Surf With Tracker, brand new feature that allows consumers to browse the web without losing track of their order.

“We’re continuing to add to the convenience of Domino’s online ordering and Pizza TrackerTM, now allowing customers to leave their computers and still know where their pizza is in the ordering process – as long as their speakers are turned up!” said Chris Brandon, Domino’s Pizza spokesperson. “Adding these elements is our way of making sure we are creating the most innovative ordering experience possible.”

Light Up The Sky

This morning as I was headed in to take the kiddos to school, one of my favorite new songs came on:  "Light up the Sky" by The Afters.  This song is so inspirational and moving.  I love hearing it first thing in the morning.  It really gets my day off to a great start!  I cranked up the radio loud and the kids and I were jamming out with The Afters and I looked up into the morning sky and was amazed at the sight...the sun was shining through the clouds and there were beautiful rays penetrating the clouds and lighting up the sky all the way to the ground!  It was an amazing sight.  I know that without a doubt at that moment God was confirming just what that song says, that he is with me all of the time!!!  What a comforting feeling to know this. Just in case you haven't heard this song, I encourage you to watch the video.  It's very powerful, grab a tissue!  Lyrics are posted below.

When I'm feeling all alone
With so far to go
The signs are no where on this road
Guiding me home
When the night is closing in
Is falling on my skin
Oh God will You come close?

(Chorus)
Light light light up the sky
You light up the sky to show me You are with me
I I I can't deny
No I can't deny that You are right here with me
You've opened my eyes
So I can see You all around me
Light light light up the sky
You light up the sky to show me
That You are with me

When stars are hiding in the clouds
I don't feel them shining
When I can't see You beyond my doubt
The silver lining
When I've almost reached the end
Like a flood You're rushing in
Your love is rushing in
(Chorus)
So I run straight into Your arms
You're the bright and morning sun
To show Your love there's nothing You won't do
(Chorus)
That You are with me
That You are with me

Shopping Time!

PhotobucketI got a jump start on my Christmas shopping over the weekend!!  Normally we are the family that is scrambling last minute to buy gifts.  This year while my husband was gone traipsing around in the deer woods stalking Bambi's Mom and Dad, my oldest daughter and I decided to head to the mall and do some shopping.  We had a great time and got quite a bit of Christmas shopping under our belts.  School teachers gifts are bought.  We also got lots of great deals for several folks on our shopping list.  So, how far along are you with your Christmas shopping?  If not, when do you start?

We don't have our Christmas tree up just yet.  We always wait until after Christmas at least to put up the tree.  Since Shelby's birthday is November 29, we usually wait until after then to put up the tree so not to detract from her special day.  It's exciting to know that we'll actually have gifts to put under there once we get the tree up!  So, what are your Christmas tree rituals?  Is there a certain time you put it up and when do you take it down?

First things first, though...THANKSGIVING!!!  I can't wait!!

My Kindergartner

PhotobucketMy middle child and only son is in Kindergarten this year.  It was a tough transition for him at first.  He cried for the first few weeks and begged me to walk him into school.  He has now moved to being dropped off with his big sister at the curb.  I get a smile and a wave each morning and, when I'm lucky, a peck on the cheek and a hug as he hops out of the van and heads in to class.  It's refreshing to see him growing and gaining confidence.

I do think that I need to buy his teacher some new pens for Christmas, though as she's using so much ink correcting his papers.  "Tyler, this is not good work!!!  FOCUS!!!" and "You're just making marks!" are a few of the comments that we've had in the last weeks as he's been working on writing his alphabet.

It's not ALL bad, though.  He does come home with his hand stamped (which means he stayed out of trouble) most of the time.  So, we're quick to praise him when this happens.  He actually brought home a note from the librarian last week saying that he DIDN'T get into trouble in the library.  This brings me to question how many times he's been in trouble in the library.  If she's compelled to send me a note home that he has been good, then chances are it's a rare occasion, wouldn't you think???

It's just so funny how he and Shelby are polar opposites.  Shelby gets upset if she gets a stern look from a teacher.  Tyler, on the other hand has only been in school for a few months and gotten in trouble more times than Shelby has in her entire 3 years there.

Photobucket
In other news, in honor of the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday, Tyler had to "dress" a naked turkey.  He was excited to work on it.  We decided to make a "hunting" turkey.  We camoflauged him up and added an orange vest as well as an orange cap, the much needed accessories:  his rifle, a knife, water canteen, binoculars, and call.  Tyler also added some scenery around the turkey for personalization.  It's quite different from the "Princess Turkey" Shelby made in Kindergarten, but it is totally fitting for his personality.

Looking @ The Sky on Friday

Photobucket

Photobucket
Today I'm pulling from the photo archives because I feel like this photo has relevance to my life as of late.  Things have been difficult for us lately.  Without going into the grueling details, I'm sure of that many of you have had things much worse.  Through lots of prayer and faith in Jesus Christ, and our marriage, we've survived the last few months.  This is not to say that we did not worry and our nails weren't bitten wondering what would happen next, but we have made it through and will continue to do so.  We have our health and we have each other.  The rest of the things are material and we will not take them with us when we leave this world and walk on streets of gold.  So, in my humble opinion they are irrelevant!  Back to the photo:  dark clouds all around, and a sliver of light is peeking through.  Never forget, my friends that there will always be an answer from God.  It may not be as timely as you'd like and it certainly may not be in the form that you wish for it to be, but it will be there.  Have no doubts.  This too, shall pass and the storm will soon be over!

Happy Blog-iversary to me, Happy Veterans Day to you!

My first post was written on Thursday, November 11, 2004.  It was short and sweet.  These days that seems to be the only way I operate.  My poor blog gets neglected a lot with 3 kids, work, house hold chores and obligations, church, etc.  I tend to twitter and Facebook a lot more than I blog because I can just keep it short and simple.

Today, in honor of our Veterans who have served this wonderful country, The United States of America I say Thank You for your service.  My children and I enjoy our freedom because of those of you who dedicate your life to serving!  I'm in agreement with Maxine:

Photobucket
Now, in honor of my 6 years of (mostly) dedicated service to the blog world, I invite you to share in some celebratory virtual cake.  And here's to another year of blogging for the sake of future embarrassment of my children. ;)

Toy Story 3 on DVD

PhotobucketIn case you've been living under a rock and didn't realize it yet, I thought I'd let you in on a little secret. The final installment of the Toy Story Trilogy has made it to Disney DVD/Blue Ray just in time for you to begin your holiday shopping. What, you haven't even thought about your holiday shopping yet? Well, never fear you're not alone. But, you know that Disney DVDs are always a great idea for anyone on your list. I took the kids to see Toy Story 3 when it debuted in theaters in Disney Digital 3D. It was an awesome movie and we loved it. You can read my review here.

If you've not seen this one, really you are missing out on the best of the Toy Story movies, in my opinion. Even though I have not had a kid grow up and go to college, I know I will and it was a hard movie for me to watch. I DID cry as Andy packed up his toys to move away to college. The end sealed the deal for me too...I won't spoil it for those of you who have yet to see it. But, seriously go out and pick up a copy next time you stumble into Wal-Mart for some milk and end up spending half your day and most of your paycheck in there!

In the mean time you can watch this clip from the Bonus Features:

Did you know that Dancing With The Stars' Tony Dovolani & Cheryl Burke choreographed the "Latin Buzz" dance scene? This clip explains!

With the Blu-Ray Combo pack, a Blu-ray Disc plus a DVD and a Digital Copy of the movie in a single package, you can enjoy the movie in three different formats! This is by far the best value offered. It is also packed with Bonus features including The Day and Night Short (we LOVED this one), Buzz Lightyear Mission logs, Toy Story Trivia Dasn (a cool game that challenges you to sprint to the finish with Woody, Buzz, Jessie and Rex as you quickly answer questions about all three Toy Story movies) and much, MUCH more.

If you've not entered the contest to win the latest Disney Merchandise from Tangled, you can DO SO HERE!!!

* I received a review copy of this DVD in exchange for my opinion of the movie. No other form of compensation has been received and the opinions stated above are my own. To read my full disclosure policy, please click here.

The Corn Maze
Photobucket
I snapped this shot as we were making our way through the corn maze two weekends ago at the pumpkin patch. Oh what fun we had getting lost in the corn. Although the men who were leading us through the maze would surely say we were never lost, and would most definitely NOT admit that they stopped and asked for directions! True story.

Tangled in a Giveaway thanks to Disney! (Contest Closed)

In anticipation of Disney's 50th full-length animated feature, Tangled, CrAzY Working Mom is partnering up with the awesome folks over at Walt Disney Studios for an awesome give away! When the kingdom’s most wanted—and most charming—bandit Flynn Rider (voice of Zachary Levi) is taken hostage by Rapunzel (voice of Mandy Moore), a feisty teen with 70 feet of golden hair who’s looking for her ticket out of the tower where she’s been locked away for years, the unlikely duo sets off on a hilarious, hair-raising escapade filled with adventure, heart, humor and hair—lots of hair. Tangled hits theaters in Disney Digital 3-D everywhere on Wednesday, November 24, 2010!

You could win:  (as pictured) {Contest Closed} Winners announced HERE.
