Looking at the Sky on Friday

Photobucket
Photobucket

It's H.O.T!!!  No doubt about it.  The kids would live in the pool if I would let them.  It's a sure fire way to cool off and a good way to get outside and not completely melt.  Seriously, it was 103° yesterday BEFORE the heat index!  Whew!!  That's too hot, folks.  This shot was taken as I went out early morning this week to clean the filter in the swimming pool. I noticed beautiful skies and a wondrous reflection of that awesome sky in the pool.  I tried hard to capture the moment.  The kids began looking for me so I had to cut it short.  But, I hope that this shot can show you partially that those hot summer days can produce some beauty along with the misery!

We need your help!

Tom and Melinda Hart lost everything in a house fire yesterday. They had a pregnant daughter and 4 grandchildren living with them who lost everything as well. Please add them to your prayers and if you have anything that might fit their needs, please feel free to contact me via comments, Facebook, etc. I will come pick it up if need be.

Bella - 2 years old - size 18-42mo shoes: 2
Dominique - 5 years old - size 6-7 shoes: 13
Alexia - 8 years old - size 8-10 shoes: 2
Thalia - 9 years old 6-10 (women's) shoes: 6.5 (women's)

Tom: 32x34 pants 9.5 shoe
Melinda : 14-16 pants 6.5 - 7.5 shoes (she works in for a law firm, so she needs some professional clothes if anyone has any that they are willing to donate)! The daughter (I did not get her name) needs XL maternity clothes. She is pregnant with a baby boy.

If you can donate ANYTHING to this family, please let me know. They also need appliances, twin sized beds, bedding, etc.

I was told that the little girls love to read and were upset because they lost all of their chapter books, etc. They lost all of their toys, books, etc. So sad...

Please add this family to your prayers and to your prayer requests at your church. There were only a few things salvaged from the fire, one of them were bibles which were left unharmed! That is how powerful our Lord is!!

UPDATE:
I am going to pick up a fridge, stove, washer, and dryer tomorrow for the family, so their appliance needs have been met. If you have any small kitchen items: toaster, microwave, coffee pot, etc. Those are still needed.

Thanks to everyone who has committed to help this family! What a blessing each and every one of you are.

A Defining Moment For This Mom

I had one of those moments last night with my husband. Mom's will know exactly what I am talking about. I had one of those moments where in the midst of the moment, I just laughed and said "THIS" is a big part of what makes me a mom!

Photobucket
Brien and I had dropped the older kids off at Vacation Bible School and on the way back home, we stopped and got something to drink. Emily, of course was already upset that she was not allowed to stay with the kids at VBS. We got her some french fries and a corn dog. Of course the food was straight out of the deep fryer. Isn't that how it always goes? When you order food for yourself, it's generally luke warm or cold. If you're ordering for your children it's always scalding hot! Needless to say, Brien and I were frantically "cooling" the french fries in front of the air conditioning vent as she was screaming for "Fench Fies"!

When I looked over at my husband we both laughed and he said, I'm sure you are going to blog about this, right?! But of course!!!

Disney's Newest and Upcoming Releases

Photobucket
My family and I are fans of Disney. In fact, I'm not sure our television remote would even change the channel from Disney if we tried! Sometimes on the rare occasion that the kiddos are gone and hubby and I are sitting around the house we find ourselves watching Sonny with a Chance, Handy Manny, or Mickey Mouse!

PhotobucketOver the weekend I took the kids to see Disney/Pixar's latest masterpiece, Toy Story 3. I must admit that it was my favorite of the "trilogy" thus far! I really enjoyed the mixture of comedy, drama, and action. There were lots of new characters introduced and the story line was very intriguing and I found myself wrapped up in the unfolding drama wondering what was going to happen with the "Toys" as Andy was off to college! Of course I got teary eyed. I don't think there's a Disney movie that I haven't cried over at one point in my life. I admit that I am a true sap! Anyhow, if you've not seen this one yet, add it to the list. The 3D effect was nothing awe inspiring to me. I could have watched it without spending the extra money but to see Buzz, Woddy, Jesse, and the gang in all of their wide screened glory was pretty cool. Oh, and the trailers were awesome in 3-D as well as the Pixar "short" that preceded the movie, Day and Night:

Here are a couple of the trailers from the movie:

The Sorcerer's Apprentice:

I'm excited about this one as I am a huge fan of Nick Cage. Seeing this trailer in 3D was pretty darned cool!!!

TANGLED:
When I saw this trailer I immediately knew it was the story of Rapunzel! How fun. I can't wait to see this one. It looks like a blast!

Summer Is Here!

PhotobucketWhoo hoo, it's hot folks.  I'm talking stick your head in the freezer and stay there 'till September kind of hot!  Tonight at 8pm it was still 96°!  That is just completely and totally insane.  It's been hot for weeks and yesterday was officially the first day of summer.  I think by the end of summer it will be at least 210°.  *sigh*

I haven't updated very much as of late because there are lots of things going on around here.  Shelby is out for the summer.  She was promoted to 2nd grade.  She almost made the all A honor roll.  She was two points away from an A in math the last 9 weeks.  Drat!  We're very proud of her.

Tyler is attending summer school.  He scored a little lower on the pre-screening for summer school than they like for them to, so they recommended summer school.  It was no surprise because Shelby also attended summer school before Kindergarten.  Tyler will just barely meet the cut off.  He is still only 4 and will turn 5 only days before school starts.  So, he will be a young one.  He is super excited about starting Kindergarten and is doing really well in summer school.

Emily is growing like a weed.  Her personality is really developing.  She's definitely reached the "terrible twos" already!!!  She's got a very short temper.  I can't imagine where she gets that from.  *grin*  She has quickly turned from a shy, sweet little girl to an aggressive, hitting big bully!  She reminds me so much of Tyler.  She tests my patience daily.  For as sweet as she can be, she can also be a little devil!  She's also quite the Tom-Boy!  She'd rather play in Tyler's room with his cars and trucks than in hers with baby dolls and the likes.  It's quite comical.

My 11 year old sister is also visiting from Texas.  She gets to stay a month here in Arkansas.  Most of her time has been spent here with us.  It's been nice having her here.  Since she lives so far away we don't get to spend much time with her so we're taking advantage of every minute we can.  Having an extra kid here is a bit trying for me with the extra laundry, food, etc.  It is also tough because the dynamic of the household changes with an "extra".  The kids fight with each other (A LOT).  I pray daily for courage and wisdom to treat them all with kindness, love and fairness.  It's tough but I think we're managing pretty well.  When you say your prayers tonight, give me a mention if you don't mind.

To sum it up, things here are HOT, busy, trying, but very BLESSED!!!  Oh, did I mention that it's HOT?!

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!!!

Photobucket
Shelby sporting her winning pair of tickets!
We got a phone call this morning from the local radio station, The Fix (105.7 KFX). It's always a good thing to get a phone call from a radio station, right?! Especially when only days before you'd registered to win concert tickets. Shelby won tickets to see The Jonas Brothers, Demi Lovato, and the cast of Camp Rock 2 in concert at the Verizon Arena on Thursday, September 30, 2010!!! Whoo hoo!!! So excited. I am more excited than my 7 year old daughter, of course. :)  I hope she takes me.  May the bribing commence!!!

Thanks so much to our friends, at The Fix for winning.  For all of you locals who want to win, there will be more chances.  So, if you're not friends with them on Facebook, do so here and you can stay in the know on how to win yourself a pair!

So, have you even won anything on the radio, if so what was it?!  How bad did you want it, and what did you have to do to win?

A Penny Saved is a Penny Earned

The following post is brought to you by the friendly folks at Billy.com, The Web's Smartest Savings Club.

PhotobucketI have three kids, two dogs, two frogs, and a husband.  The thought of moving us and all of our "stuff" just makes me a nervous wreck.  I have never hired professional movers for our moves but I think that it would have added years to my life!  I have learned a few things over the years, although I haven't moved a lot in my life compared to some, I have moved enough to know that there are a few tried and true tips that can help make your move smoother.   Whether you're using one of those Tucson moving companies or just a truck and trailer there are lots of things you can do to ensure a successful, stress-free (well, less stressed at least!) move.

Pack up those non-essential items as far in advance as you can.  Photo albums, wall decorations, etc that you can live without for a couple of weeks can be safely stored in boxes to keep you from having to pack everything last minute as the moving truck is on it's way!  This is also a great time to go through your things and throw away what you don't need.  This is best done before the move so you're not moving unnecessary items and you can start fresh in your new home!   According to UHAUL moving tips you should also move during the week when businesses such as bank, utility companies, etc are open.

If you're moving, I'll say a prayer for you! I hope that some of these tips have helped you and can save you some time.

Oh yeah, I got a new 'do!

Last week I went in for a hair cut.  I went to a new stylist.  I told her that I like my hair just below my shoulders (so I can still pull it up in a pony tail).  I wanted some layers, and some "sweeping" layers into my face.

I went from this:

To This:

What do you think? It's a nice style for the summer, I suppose. It's a LOT lighter to say the least.  My hair is naturally wavy/curly so the Chi flat iron is my best friend with this cut for sure!  Thanks to all of my Facebook Friends for the compliments.  Everyone there seem to love it.  I've not gotten good feedback from my family who are used to seeing me with long hair.  Ah well, it'll grow back I suppose.  ;)

Looking @ The Sky on Friday

Photobucket
Photobucket
This sky popped up at the office the other day. Thankfully it looked worse than it turned out to be. I snapped this shot with my iphone. I'm not sure what caused it to be distorted like this, but I sort of liked it! What do you think??? I hope you all have a great weekend! I will be busy as I have a(nother!) television appearance Friday morning and an out of town family reunion this weekend. Thanks for playing ya'll! Have a beautiful weekend and keep looking at those skies, friends!

I'm Daydreaming Again!

PhotobucketTyler will start Kindergarten in the fall.  He's a young 'un.  He will just barely be 5 when he starts.  He went for screening a couple of weeks back and he scored a bit lower than they would like for him to score.  It was no surprise to me being that he is younger, thus they suggested summer school for him.  He started last Friday and he will go for the entire month of June.

Also for the month of June my little sister from Texas will be staying in Arkansas.  She is a pleasure to have, but being that she is only 11, it's mostly like having a 4th (GASP!) child.  It's more laundry, extra cooking, etc.  But the good thing is that with her being 11, she is also a very good helper, thank goodness!

To say that things are busy for me could quite possibly be the understatement of the century!  School, work, kids, laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc.  It's enough to make me want to curl up in the fetal position over in the corner!!!

PhotobucketSometimes I wish that I could clone myself to where I could enjoy my kids, ya know do all of the fun things with them...go swimming, to the park, watch a movie, visit the zoo, play a little baseball in the front yard...those things that I do not have time to do.  My clone could do all of those things that I hate to do like laundry, grocery shopping, cleaning the toilets, doing the floors, cleaning out the pool, etc!  Wouldn't that be nice?!?!  Seriously!  Even if I could just have a cleaning contractor keep up with the overwhelmingly large amount of housework I have to do I would be a happy woman!  I had a cleaning lady for a while, and I must admit that on the days when she came, I looked forward to coming home to a CLEAN house.  It was nice knowing that when I opened the doors, the smell of freshly mopped floors and clean linens filled the air.

Unfortunately, I'm living in the real world now where things are as they were when we left them this morning...in complete and total disarray!  I suppose I have this to look forward to for the next 16 years or so, right?

...at least a Mom can dream!

Emily Loves Eden Home and So Should You!

As a mother of three, I strive to find cute, comfortable clothes for my children. Looking at the labels is becoming more of a habit for me, as we are trying to do our part to preserve the future of our environment. Every little bit we do can help out and by teaching my children these habits, I am preserving their future and the future of their children as well! Why wouldn't you want to know that everything is touching your baby's skin is natural or organic free of dyes and harsh chemicals? Eden Home has a selection of Organic baby clothes that will do just that! But, it doesn't just stop with baby clothes, they also have organic bedding, bath, toys, skincare, etc. The list goes on. If you're shopping for a new baby, they offer some adorable organic baby gifts

Photobucket

I was lucky enough to work with Fuelmyblog in a product testing for Eden Home! I was given the opportunity to order an outfit of my choice to test and review. Emily was SO exited when she realized that she got a package in the mail.  Big sister, Shelby was a bit jealous at first, but she quickly got over it when she got to help Emily open her package.

Photobucket

We ordered  the organic "candy stripe" tunic style dress and paired it with some pink "lollipop" organic leggings for baby Emily.  She was so excited when she saw her new, cute outfit that she immediately wanted to put it on and I must admit that I was excited to see it on her as well. Organic baby dresses from Frugi are all made from 100% organic cotton and finished naturally with natural dyes and finishing materials. The organic baby leggings hold their shape well and hold up in the wash. Organic baby leggings by Frugi are made from 100% certified organic cotton and are finished all naturally.
Photobucket

All in all, we love the product.  It is definitely worth the extra price to know that you are putting an all natural product on your child.  We've washed it several times and it holds it's color and shape, and to me that is what matters most!  To find out more about Eden Home, you can click over now, and while you're at it follow them on Facebook as well!

Disclosure:  I was given a gift certificate by the sponsor in order to purchase the items of my choice in exchange for a review.  No other form of compensation has been given to me nor any other member of my family  The review is my honest opinion of the product.  I cannot be responsible for the statements made by the sponsoring companies or it's affiliates.   To read my full disclosure policy, click here.

Starstruck on DVD from Disney

PhotobucketWe have waited with great anticipation the release of Disney's newest full length feature, Starstruck starring none other than "Chad Dillon Cooper" a/k/a Sterling Knight from Sonny With A Chance. This is one of my daughter's favorite television shows!  We watched Starstruck when it originally aired on Disney and thankfully we DVRed it so we could watch it over and over.

"StarStruck, a music and adventure-filled romp that hits all the right notes for kids and tweens, tells the story of Jessica Olson (Danielle Campbell, Prison Break) and her older sister Sara (Maggie Castle, Time Traveler’s Wife), who are heading to Hollywood from Kalamazoo, Michigan, on a family trip to visit their grandmother. Sara is obsessed with pop star Christopher Wilde (Sterling Knight, Sonny with a Chance) and hopes to track him down while in California, but Jessica could care less about the stuck-up star and would rather go sightseeing. When the sisters arrive in L.A. Sara takes Jessica on a hunt to find Christopher and a chance meeting with the star sets off a series of comic adventures that feature many of L.A.’s landmark locations. As the sisters sight see and spend time together, Jessica gets to know the real Christopher and soon their friendship grows. Ultimately Christopher must decide what is more important -- being himself or becoming a movie star. Disney Channel stars Brandon Mychal Smith (Sonny With a Chance) and Chelsea Staub (JONAS) also star as Christopher’s loyal best friend and fame hungry girlfriend, respectively."
Today, this Disney Channel Hit Movie is available two ways: as a single DVD or a 2 disc set that includes the DVD+ Full Length Soundtrack CD. Each exciting release contains a never-before-seen exclusive extended scene and additional music with eight Rock-Along tracks and three music videos. The 2 disc set includes the DVD, plus the Walt Disney Records CD soundtrack with chart-climbing songs performed by stars Sterling Knight and Brandon Mychal Smith (“Sonny With A Chance”) among others.  For more information, you can click the movie box art above.  For more Disney Movies, you can click here to visit Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainment (WDSHE).

If you haven't picked up Disney's Alice in Wonderland,
you can click the box art to get a coupon for

REST-Room

When you have to visit a public bathroom, you usually find a line of women, so you smile politely and take your place

PhotobucketOnce it's your turn, you check for feet under the stall doors. Every stall is occupied.

Finally, a door opens and you dash in, nearly knocking down the woman leaving the stall.

You get in to find the door won't latch. It doesn't matter, the wait has been so long you are about to wet your pants!

The dispenser for the modern "seat covers" (invented by someone's Mom, no doubt) is handy, but empty.

You would hang your purse on the door hook, if there were one,but there isn't - so you carefully, but quickly drape it around your neck, (Mom would turn over in her grave if you put it on the FLOOR!), yank down your pants, and assume " The Stance."

In this position your aging, toneless (God I should have gone to the gym!!!) thigh muscles begin to shake.

You'd love to sit down, but you certainly hadn't taken time to wipe the seat or lay toilet paper on it, so you hold "The Stance".

Photobucket
To take your mind off your trembling thighs, you reach for what you discover to be the empty toilet paper dispenser. In your mind, you can hear your mother's voice saying, "Honey, if you had tried to clean the seat, you would have KNOWN there was no toilet paper!" Your thighs shake more.

You remember the tiny tissue that you blew your nose on yesterday - the one that's still in your purse. (Oh yeah, the purse around your neck, that now, you have to hold up trying not to strangle yourself at the same time). That will have to do. You crumple it in the puffiest way possible. It's still smaller than your thumbnail.

Someone pushes your door open because the latch doesn't work.

The door hits your purse, which is hanging around your neck in front of your chest, and you and your purse topple backward against the tank of the toilet.

"Occupied!" you scream, as you reach for the door, dropping your precious, tiny, crumpled tissue in a puddle on the floor, lose your footing altogether, and slide down directly onto the TOILET SEAT.
It is wet of course.

You bolt up, knowing all too well that it's too late. Your bare bottom has made contact with every imaginable germ and life form on the uncovered seat becauseYOU never laid downtoilet paper - not that there was any, even if you had taken time to try.

PhotobucketYou know that your mother would be utterly appalled if she knew, because, you're certain her bare bottom never touched a public toilet seat because, frankly, dear, "You just don't KNOW what kind of diseases you could get".

By this time, the automatic sensor on the back of the toilet is so confused that it flushes, propelling a stream of water like a fire hose against the inside of the bowl that sprays a fine mist of water that covers your butt and runs down your legs and into your shoes.

The flush somehow sucks everything down with such force that you grab onto the empty toilet paper dispenser for fear of being dragged in too

At this point, you give up. You're soaked by the spewing water and the wet toilet seat.

You're e-x-h-a-u-s-t-e-d.
You try to wipe with a gum wrapper you found in your pocket and then slink out inconspicuously to the sinks.

You can't figure out how to operate the faucets with the automatic sensors, .....so you wipe your hands with spit and a dry paper towel and walk past the line of women still waiting.

You are no longer able to smile politely to them.
A kind soul at the very end of the line points out a piece of toilet paper trailing from your shoe.(Where was that when you NEEDED it??) You yank the paper from your shoe, plunk it in the woman's hand and tell her warmly, "Here, you just might need this".

As you exit, you spot your hubby, who has long since entered, used, and left the men's restroom.
Annoyed, he asks,"What took you so long, and why is your purse hanging around your neck?"

This is dedicated to women everywhere who deal with a public restrooms (rest??? You've GOT to be kidding!!). It finally explains to the men what really does take us so long. It also answers their other commonly asked questions about why women go to the restroom in pairs. It's so the other gal can hold the door, hang onto your purse, and hand you Kleenex under the door!
