Camera Critters - "Hello!"

This little guy was at the Downtown Aquarium in Houston. He was very a very friendly sting ray  and unable to harm as he was in a tank where you were allowed to pet and touch him. It was my favorite feature in the Aquarium. I thought it looked like he was waving in this picture. What do you think?!

Saturday Photo Hunt

My 86th
This Week's Theme: Book(s)

There is a book in this photo. It is perhaps one of the most important books that a mother can read. It is a "baby name" book! I was packed and ready to go to the hospital in preparation for the induction of my third child. I had everything that I could possibly need while I was there, a baby sitter for the other two children, and Mo on standby to post a picture here when our sweet baby girl arrived. The only thing that my husband and I had not agreed on at this moment was a name for said baby. I wanted to name her Emma Grace. He was not sold on that one. On the way to the hospital we discussed it. It was not the first time this had happened. HE was undecided with all three until after they arrived. In the end, the name I chose was the winner with the other two. As for the sweet baby girl, for those of you who don't know her name was decided: Emily Grace.

Summer is here, my friends! My time inside is limited with the beautiful weather and three active children. I try to hop on Facebook and Twitter when I have a few spare minutes. I hope you're all having a great summer so far and not stuck indoors working on cad drawings or something ridiculously boring. Get outside and enjoy a view like the one above! Life is short. Don't spend it cooped up inside the house.

I am not sure if Mr Linky is still on the fritz or not. I'm going to give it a try. If it's not working, please make sure to leave your link in the comments so that your fellow LATSOF participants can find you!

Have a great weekend everyone.

Saturday Photo Hunt - Plastic

My 85th
This Week's Theme: Plastic
The beautifully colorful hummingbirds flock to these plastic flowers with pizazz! What I love most about this photo is that the little wings are flapping so fast that the camera could not capture them. I love trying to capture them on film. They have been scarce lately, I suppose due to the rain. The feeder is full and ready for them when they get thirsty again.

Just a friendly reminder that this is the last week of the Douglas Plush Giveaway! All you have to do is go to this post and leave a comment. A winner will be chosen randomly! It's that simple. Don't miss your chance. Do it now.

EA Sports Active 30 Day Challenge (Day 2)

I would like to start this post with a huge THANK YOU from the folks over at EA Sports Active for the opportunity to receive this game. I was a lucky winner in a contest they held via their Facebook page. If you're not a friend, click the link above to get over to their page and add them.

I received the game on Thursday and could not get it opened fast enough to get started on it. To say I was excited about this game would be a huge understatement. I have been looking forward to trying this game out since I first started reading about Julie's 30 day challenge. When I first got the Wii Fit I was pumped about getting fit and active so that I could lose this "baby fat" that is still lingering around. Since my "baby" is almost 9 months, I can no longer blame this extra weight on the pregnancy. I have been very happy with the results I've achieved by using the Wii Fit but I was feeling like I wanted a little more. I needed something that was more work than play. The EA Sports Active was most definitely the answer!

I am on day two of my very own 30 day challenge. Thank goodness tomorrow is labeled a "rest" day because my muscles are screaming in agony at me. They are not used to the seemingly endless lunges that I put them through today. The whole time I was pushing through telling myself that I CAN DO IT. I want to lose this weight and I want to prove that I can follow through with this. This was a work out, my friends. There was no clicking through to figure out which exercise I would perform next. There was no starting and stopping. This was an intense half hour of hard core cardio and strength building exercises. When I finished, I felt good. I felt refreshed and revived. Now I am sore! This is a good thing, right?!

I love that the game shows you how to do each specific exercise with a real person in a real video so you're not guessing if you are performing the tasks correctly. I also like the fact that you can see how many calories you've burned during each task and how much you've burned in the work out. There is also a timer that shows you how long you've been working out. The only down side I see to the EA Sports is that it does not track your weight loss progression. I guess that getting fit is not all about losing weight, but I do like to keep track of the number, so I will probably continue to do my daily weigh ins with the Wii Fit to keep track of my progress.

My kids played this game and loved it as well. There are many different sports activities such as volleyball, tennis, basketball, and boxing. There is also dancing which I really enjoyed, but the kids didn't like it as much. I don't think that this game will replace Mario Kart and Bowling for them, but they did enjoy it.

I will be tracking my progress here for the next 30 days (and beyond I'm sure). If you've purchased this game, I'd love for you to join me on my journey. If you've not purchased this game, maybe this post will convince you to do so. For busy working mom's like myself who have no time for the gym, this is the perfect solution. I am certain that I will be seeing positive results from this game in the near future. I just can't wait!

Nope, this picture is NOT upside down. It was taken as I laid down in the front yard and admired the beautiful blue skies! I did nothing to this photo to alter the color in any way. The skies were truly that blue! It was a gorgeous day and I took advantage of it by stretching a blanket out on the ground with the kiddos and stared at the sky. We should all take the time to enjoy this sort of view from time to time!

I am having trouble with Mr Linky so please leave your links in the comment so that we can follow to your blog! Happy Friday everyone.

Weather, Teeth, & Wet Keyboards...

We have had beautiful weather all week. Highs in the low 80s and high 70s with a slight breeze and sunshine. Who could ask for more?! The long weekend (Memorial Day) is quickly approaching and guess what? THIS is our forecast:It's a good thing I've got 3 Netflix movies due in today. It looks like we'll be spending a big part of the long weekend indoors. I do hope to catch Night At The Museum - Battle @ The Smithsonian this weekend as the first Night At The Museum is one of Tyler's favorite movies.

In other news, Kris Allen won American Idol last night and I think that all over Arkansas the screams of excitement could be heard and I'm sure that I'm not the only person who shed a few tears of joy to see our hometown boy graciously accept this prestigious honor. Congrats, Kris on your feat and we wish you much continued success in this journey ahead. I will have to say that I enjoyed the finale show. It was the best by far. Adam's performance with KISS was memorable and I am searching for those boots he had on because I just loved them!

Emily Grace is 8.5 months old and she now officially has two bottom teeth. She's been chewing on everything she can get her hands on and some things that she can't. She has also discovered a new love for music and television. She will rock back and forth on her hands and knees when a song comes on television. In fact, she will drop what she is doing to watch American Idol and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Let the hate mail and comments begin on what a bad parent I am for letting my kids watch television. I watch a lot of television, so I can't tell my kids they can't, right?! That would be hypocritical of me. When the warm weather finally settles in, though we'll be spending lots of time in the swimming pool, so our television sets will have some time to rest.
She has also discovered a fascination with my laptop. Yes, it's true that they only know what they are taught. She sees her mommy pecking away at these keys all of the time and she wants to know what all of the fuss is about. She tried them out and they don't taste as good as they look. I think that she'll have her own facebook page in no time and will be blogging all about what she learned from twitter and flickr.

Ruby Tuesday

This was the scene at my office yesterday afternoon. While their mommy was catching up on Facebook, Twitter, & Blogging working very hard on important office work, term insurance comparisons and such they were snoozing their little hearts out. I didn't have my camera with me, so I used my cell phone. I am using this for my Ruby Tuesday photo because the chair that is holding the DVD player that put them to sleep is red. There is also red on the head of the turkey decoy Shelby propped up under her Kindergarten nap mat to use for a pillow.

In other news, Emily (who is now 8.5 months old) has finally cut her first tooth. I am not sure which one it was because like her sister and brother before her, she cut two in at the same time. Now we're just waiting for the ear infection that usually follows. I was just getting used to sleeping the whole night through (well, mostly) and now here comes the teething monster. She is also crawling about now pretty well. It is simply amazing to me to see this little baby growing into such a big girl. It seems like only yesterday Tyler was trying to unscrew my belly button with a screwdriver to get his baby sister out...Good times, I tell ya...good times!

Shelby is officially a first grader now. She's been promoted from Kindergarten to the 1st grade. She is out of school for the summer. We've not made any big plans thus far, but we're all excited that we're going to have a visitor in a couple of weeks. My baby sister, Jeannene is coming to spend a couple of weeks with us in June. We can't wait for her to get here. We're looking forward to a fun filled summer.

Manic Monday - Shadow

This is the shadow of a wind chime on my front porch.  I love the tones in this chime.  It's made of porcelain and the sounds that it emits are beautiful on a breezy day like today.  It's in the low 70s today and absolutely gorgeous outside.  It should be against the law to have to do any sort of work on a day like this.  Whether you're selling wireless security systems, or working at a gas station, on a day like it is in central Arkansas today, we should all be allowed to stay home or at least work outside under a big 'ole shade tree!!  What are you up to on this fine Monday?

The Curious Case of Benjamin Button

I would assume that by now I was probably one of the only people left in the US that had not seen The Curious Case of Benjamin Button starring Brad Pitt and Cate Blanchett.  I finally found time to fit it into my schedule last weekend to watch.  I knew it was a long one (a run time of 165 minutes) so it would be hard for me to be able to sit down that long and watch it straight through without being disrupted by at least one of the three children, the dog or the husband.  Thankfully I watched it while the dog and the youngest napped, and  the older two and hubby went shopping.

I must say that the make up artists in this movie deserve major kudos for their sensational job with the aging of Brad Pitt's character in this movie.  For those of you living under a rock and don't know the premises of this movie, Pitt was born with a rare genetic disorder where he ages backward.  He is actually born with the body of an old man and as he ages in years, his body is getting younger.  The movie is the tale of his life.  It is a wild tale and Brad Pitt was the perfect pick for this movie.  Although I do not care much for the things he does on his own time, his acting is superb.  I think that this movie was a bit too long and drawn out, for my taste.  I never could have sat in a theater and watched it in it's entirety, but in the comforts of my own home, it was alright.  I was more overwhelmed with the make up in this movie than the actual story line or the characters.  For me it was, just okay.  It was nothing spectacular.  Yeah, I know it won Three Academy Awards, but it just seemed to lack something for me.  I can't really put my finger on it.  I was unimpressed with the ending as well.  If you've not watched it, then you won't know why, but I just felt that it was a bit too unrealistic for me.

Would I recommend you watch it?  That's a hard one for me.  Usually I'm pretty cut and dry with movies.  But, with this one I am up in the air.  I didn't DISlike it, but I wouldn't say that I loved it either.  So, I hate to say it, but I think I'm just on the fence with this one.  If you've got an 2.75 hours to spare and you want to give it a look (if you haven't already) go ahead.  But, if you're like me it's hard to part with that kind of time.

What did you think?  If you've seen it already how did you feel about it?  Did you watch it at home or on the big screen?  Feel free to leave me your thoughts on this one...grab you some popcorn on the way in.

It's a bird, it's a plane, it's a helium balloon. It had escaped from the arm of a child at the Downtown Aquarium. It is a sea horse balloon. If you click on the photo you can see the larger version of it and you can see the balloon more clearly. What I loved about this photo is the beautiful colors of the sky and the clouds. This photo, like it's predecessor last week was taken from atop the Ferris Wheel. As it turns out, one can get some great shots sitting above a city like Houston, Texas. I loved it. My 10 year old sister, however was not as thrilled as myself to be so far up. She did not need Colonix, for she could have had a natural colon cleanse up there in the sky! *LOL*

Congrats, Kris!

Congrats, to Conway's own Kris Allen on being in the
Finals on American Idol.

Arkansas is pulling for you, Kris.
We you.

Bowling With Kindergartners

Today was a field trip with Shelby's Kindergarten class to the bowling alley.  I must say that watching three classes full of six year olds try to bowl was the funniest thing I've seen in a while.  Their approach to this sport is quite entertaining to say the least.  Some took the run to the edge of the line and hurl the ball approach while others would stand at the edge of the line and granny shoot the ball (which is my personal favorite).  The buzzer that alerts you that you are stepping over the line was buzzing non-stop.  The kids were warned about overstepping because the lanes were oiled and they might fall.  When the buzzer went off, they got that deer in the headlights look like they thought they were going to have to go to the principals office!  This one little girl would toss her ball and it seemed like it took days for the thing to go down the lane.  She would stand there and jump up and down like she was trying to make it go faster.  It was like watching paint dry.  Overall, it was quite an entertaining time.

They were scheduled to go to the park afterward to eat their sack lunch but it was too wet, so we ended up going back to the school. Since I had promised Shelby that I would eat lunch with her, Emily and I went back to the school and had lunch with her in the cafeteria and then played with her afterward on the playground for a bit. My sister joined us as well and had lunch with her Kindergarten daughter, Katie.  Overall we had a fun day and I am so thankful that I am fortunate enough to be able to go and do things like this with my daughter.  I hope it is something that she'll always remember. When it was time for Mandy and I to leave the girls, as their recess was about to end, the tears began to flow.  They did not want to stay at school.  They wanted to be checked out early.  My sister had to go back to work, but I told them they could go with me.  I had a few things that I needed to do back at the office, but the girls are old enough to help out with Emily and they will keep themselves entertained while I work.  I had to order some checks and envelopes from Quickbooks. Thankfully I had some coupons to use so that I could save a bit of money because we all know that in today's economy every penny you can pinch is a penny well saved!  I did what I needed to do and the girls and I came home.  Tyler was riding horses (go figure) with his grandpa so we had a quiet afternoon watching some movies and hanging out.  I have uploaded the pictures from our day to Facebook, as always.  If you haven't seen them yet, you can click here to do so.

The Uninvited on DVD

Okay, folks if you like suspense thrillers with a bit of edgy "jump out of your seat in terror" twists THIS is the movie for you. I watched this one on Friday night after Emily went to bed. DH and the kiddos were gone leaving me alone. I knew it would not be a movie for the kids, so I thought it was a good opportunity to watch. YIKES!!! I found myself jumping at every noise I heard when it went off and I did not go to bed until the DH was back home and I could cuddle with him. To find out more about this movie, including the official trailer, videos, cast and crew info and much more click the graphic above to go to the official movie site.

This movie is amazing. Anna, is a girl who is driven by her mother’s ghost to investigate her untimely death. When her father becomes engaged to Rachel, her mother’s former nurse, Anna and her sister look into Rachel’s past and begin to suspect that she is not what she seems. This movie is full of unsuspecting twists and I'm sure that the end will leave you sitting there (at the edge of your seat of course) with your mouth hanging wide open just like mine! As far as a suspense thriller, I don't think they come any better than this one, my friends. If you like them, go out and get it. The only recommendation I would make is to not watch it alone like I did!

Easy as Pie Recipe

Here's a recipe that's "easy as pie". Ba-dum! I made two for the Mother's Day celebration at my sister's house on Sunday. The key lime was more of a hit than the pictured strawberry. This recipe is easy and a wonderfully low in fat. You can use any flavors you like, even mix and match. Since I don't have a red Ferrari, I can't use Ferrari parts as my RT post, so I thought this was the perfect opportunity to post this recipe:

Ingredients:
* 1 reduced fat graham cracker crust
* 1 (1/16 ounce) package sugar-free lime gelatin
* 1/4 cup boiling water
* 1 (8 ounce) container fat-free whipped topping
* 2 (6 ounce) key lime pie yogurt

Directions:
1. In a large bowl, dissolve gelatin in boiling water.
2. Stir in yogurt with wire whisk.
3. Fold in whipped topping with wooden spoon.
4. Spread in crust.
5. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
6. Top with fresh fruit (if desired)

Mother's Day - It was a stinker, literally!!!

I hope that all of my fellow Mommies had a wonderful Mother's Day weekend. As for me, I couldn't have asked for a better time with my family. I got to eat a yummy breakfast prepared by my wonderful husband with my mother and father-in-law Sunday morning. My wonderful husband even cleaned up (well mostly) after breakfast. He is amazing. I got loads of hand made cards from my 6 year old daughter. My son made me some crafts at school. I was a bit disappointed that I didn't get a macaroni necklace to wear. I guess there's always next year, right? I did get an Ipod Touch from Brien and the kids. They got it on Saturday which was when I also received it because Tyler came in from shopping with his dad and sister and declared, "Mommy we got you a new ipod"! Since the cat was out of the bag, I got my gift a day early. I was so glad that I didn't end up with horse or cattle supplies because ya just never know with my bunch!
Sunday afternoon we went to my sister's house and spent the afternoon with my mother and siblings. Since my sister has a new house (a big log cabin) it was nice to be there because there was room for the kids to play and have fun while not disturbing the adults (too much). It was nice to spend time with my Mom. I have less and less than that these days. I also got a call from my dad which was a nice surprise.

The downside to the day was when we got home, we realized that Oscar the wiener dog (click the picture to see him hiding) had been left uncrated. This is not a good thing. When we leave, he vandalizes the house if he's left out of his crate. I don't know why this happens. He's fine when we're here, even at night. But, when we leave if we forget to lock him up, he chews up everything possible. This time, one box of diaper wipes, a half a bag of new diapers, a box of tissue, a brand new hair bow, and my "Mother's Hall of Fame" mother's day card fell victim to the violence . I guess we all know how Oscar feels about me now, right? The worst of all is that he found a sippie cup full of milk that had obviously been MIA for quite some time. He managed to chew a hole in the lid and the nearly solidified milk was then extracted by said perpetrator. Needless to say, the house was filled with an aroma that was unmistakable when we walked through the door. In fact, it still lingers.

Manic Monday - Swing

Last Mother's Day Brien got me a covered swing. We have had many memorable moments on this porch swing. We sip coffee in the mornings while watching the sun rise. We drink sweet tea in the evenings while watching the sun set. Emily and I watch the older two children play in the front yard while we swing. This swing has given us many memories and I look forward to the ones to come!

Now Available on Disney DVD

Disney's Imagination Movers, has quickly become our household favorite.  Don't get me wrong, when the kids were younger they loved The Wiggles, but they got old really fast.  The Movers:  Dave, Scott, Rich, and Smitty come to the rescue when there is an idea emergency and brainstorm problem solving techniques, try out all sorts of solutions and by the time the show is finished, use team work to solve the emergency.  Their songs are hip and cool.  Seriously!  We've moved beyond the days of Barney, my friends.  Step into the wonderful world of Disney.  Go out and grab this DVD.  You'll be glad you did.  The DVD also has a bonus episode of the new Playhouse Disney Series, Special Agent Oso.  If you need more convincing, the movers have won multiple national music awards and were named a Parenting Pick by Parenting Magazine. Most recently, the Movers and the TV series were honored with an award for Outstanding Kids Entertainment by the Common Sense Media Awards, which honors nationally recognized individuals and organization that have made a profound impact in the world of kids and family media. Their Walt Disney Records release, "Juice Box Heroes," was selected by iTunes as a 2008 Top 10 pick in the children's music genre. To find out more about this Disney release, click the graphic above.

Mickey Mouse Clubhouse: Mickey's Big Splash is available just in time for summer! Tyler's favorite Disney show, by far is Mickey Mouse "Da Clubhouse" as he calls it. The Mouseketools are there when we need 'em. All we have to do is shout "Oh Toodles!" and he always has exactly what we need!  I just wish that I could get my very own "Toodles".  This DVD contains four episodes including Pete’s Beach Blanket Luau, Mickey Goes Fishing, Pluto’s Bubble Bath, & Donald’s Ducks. We've seen them all...several times over because you know when a 3 year old gets a new DVD they want to watch it again, and again, and again!  The good thing about Mickey is that he's a timeless classic and it's a great show full of great songs, and we all love the Hot Dog Dance don't we?!  For more information on this Disney DVD, click the graphic.  To find out more about upcoming Disney DVDs, click here.

Happy Mother's Day - Camera Critters

This beautiful seahorse is a mother that I do not envy. I can see the exhaustion in her posture. The poor thing. I think she needs a night out on the shell. Any volunteers for pony sitters?
These are her children...there are hundreds of them in this tiny tank! If you click the image to make it larger you can see the proof.

Happy Mother's Day to all my fellow mommas out there. I hope your day is grand and you don't have too much to clean up after the celebration. Maybe this will give you a laugh:
