New Releases from Disney DVD

Yes, it's true that going green is just cool! Even Handy Manny is doing it. This is Tyler's favorite Disney show where the motto is, "You break it - We fix it". Manny and his box full of tools help him to help all of the townsfolk in Sheetrock hills by fixing things. Manny and the tools learn about conserving and preserving earth's natural resources by restoring cool air for the science fair, harnessing the power of the sun with a solar-powered motorized sign, and in a never before seen episode protecting an endangered nest of baby turtles! Manny’s Green Team is the best way to inspire the whole family to pitch in, roll up their sleeves and “go green!” Handy Manny hits shelves today from Disney DVD.

"Build a bridge and get over it". I heard my 6 year old daughter telling my son this last night at the dinner table. I laughed and then thought to myself, where on earth did she hear this phrase?! It's on an episode of Hannah Montana in a conversation between Miley (a.k.a. Hannah Montana) and Lilly, her best friend. The new "Keeping it Real" DVD contains 5 episodes of the Disney original hit television show including one never before seen episode, "Ready, Set, Don't Drive". This DVD also features some awesome guest stars like Corbin Bleu, and the ever-so-muscular hunk of a man Dewayne "The Rock" Johnson. We watch this show at least two or three times a day, and now that Hannah Montana episodes are available on DVD, that number just keeps rising!

For more information about these DVDs click on the graphics. For more information about other DVDs available through Disney, click here.

Ruby Tuesday

Today's Ruby Tuesday photo is the tricycle that my mom bought Shelby for her first birthday. I don't think that she has ever been on it. She got a battery powered four wheeler on the same birthday, so the little red tricycle played second fiddle. Along came Tyler and he loves this thing! He plays with it all the time. In fact, he loves to just push it around, like he's doing in this photo. So, Shelby's first tricycle was also Tyler's first and he's logged many more miles on it than she has. I wonder what it will be like when Emily gets old enough to ride?

Is that what I think it is?!?!

Tyler: Mommy, I need you to wipe my butt.

I turn from the stove to see him standing with his pants and underwear at his ankles.

Me: Son, I'm trying to make dinner, you don't need to come into the kitchen while I am cooking. If you can't wipe your own butt go back to the potty and call for me. I will come there and help you.

Tyler: Okay, mommy will you come help me?

At this point he turns to walk to back to the bathroom and I see something fall to the floor. I bend over to take a peek and discover that it was a turd. Yep, a tiny goat sized turd fell into the floor.

Only in this crazy house can a turd fall at my feet while I am trying to make dinner. The worst part about it is that I grabbed a tissue and headed for the bathroom without much hesitation at all. You know your a mommy when picking up a turd is second nature, kind of like catching vomit! So, who wants to join us for dinner tomorrow?

Manic Monday - Birds

Have you ever been "Snipe Hunting"? If you read that and chuckled a bit, then obviously you have taken someone hunting for an imaginary bird. If you groaned, then perhaps you were the recipient of such hoax. The classic scenario involves the unsuspected being taken into a field at night, given a flashlight and a garbage bag or some sort of sack and told to wait until the other pranksters send the snipes their way. The unsuspected "hunter" must realize the importance of being very still and quiet while holding open the sack in order for the snipe to be unaware of it's pending doom. While the virgin hunter waits in the open field listening to all of the scary noises around them, they don't realize that the others have gone home and left them to fend for themselves. Soon enough, the realize the joke's on them. This sort of bird hunting has been practiced for many generations, but did you know that there is a bird called a snipe and that there really is a such thing as snipe hunting with guns?

Indeed, the snipe is a real bird. A small plump member of the sandpiper family, a snipe is brown with distinctive white stripes on its head and back and white belly. They look similar to a woodcock, but are less stocky with more stripes and a longer bill. Their eyes are set far back in their head which enables them to see both forward and back. When startled, they take off flying in a rapid zig-zag pattern. They also have the ability to swim and dive, using their feet and wings underwater, to escape from enemies.

Snipes nest in wet meadows and boggy areas from Alaska to New Jersey, and winter farther south. They move together in flocks at night, but scatter during the day to feed alone. They seem to be more active on cloudy days. They feed by plunging their long bills into mud in search of insects and grubs. The bill is soft and pliable with a hard tip, and full of nerve endings that allows the snipe to smell and feel the movements and scents of various types of prey.

When hunting for the real snipe, it's best to dress for wet conditions and pack lightly. When hunting for the prankster snipe, it's best to be the one leading the hunt!

Have you seen a real snipe or hunted for an imaginary one?

Well, here comes the scrap!

I have been given an award from one of my new favorite reads.

John from Gay Dads in Munchkin Land has given me the Honest Scrap Award.

"this award is bestowed upon a fellow blogger whose blogs content or design is, in the giver's opinion, brilliant."

Thanks so much to you, John for thinking of me for this award.  Brilliant, wow that is flattering!  If you've not been over to visit this blog, I'd like to invite you to do so. He's an Entrecard member so you can head over, drop on him, and leave him a comment and let him know that CWM sent you over to say hello!

This award comes with a tag as well, so I will oblige my new friend with ten (10) honest things about myself.

1.  I am excited about weight loss, but not about dieting.

2.  I weight more now than I have ever weighed in my life in a non-pregnant state.

3.  I crave chocolate.  Not just your normal craving, but I ache for it.  I have not had chocolate in over three weeks.

4.  I am glad Spring Break is over.  I love my kids, but I'm ready for some time away from them.

5.  I cry like a baby when I watch movies.  Just about any movie I watch makes me cry.  I'm such a sap.

6.  I love to sing really loud in my vehicle when I drive.  I also dance, and I don't care who's watching!

7.  I wish I could hire someone to clean my house for me.  The trouble is that I am just too picky and I know that it'd never be like I wanted, so I've never even tried.

8.  We go to see our accountant on Thursday and I'm as nervous as a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs!

9.  Last week my mom reconnected with her half-sister.  They had a falling out when my grandma died and haven't spoken since.  My aunt's father died and mom went to the funeral.  It did my heart good to see them embracing. It was a great feeling and I am so glad that they have put their differences behind them.

10. I'm super excited about seeing the movie 17 Again.  Please don't tell my husband or my 6 year old that I have a secret crush on Zac Efron.  They won't let me watch HSM ever again.  My secret's safe with you all, right, RIGHT?

Lilo & Stitch on DVD

Disney has now released Lilo & Stitch to DVD. This is a beautiful story of friendship and 'ohana. My kids love to watch the animated series on the Disney channel. We have the VHS and we watch it from time to time on he 'ole VCR, remember those?! The DVD copy is packed with extras like “Your ‘Ohana” a music video featuring The Hawaiian Chorus, Five deleted scenes, the making of Lilo & Stitch a behind the scenes interactive look & much more. For information on this Disney DVD you can click the graphic on the right. For more information on other Disney releases you can check out Disney.com. Saturday Photo Hunt - Hands

My 82nd
This Week's Theme: Hands

Although this isn't the best quality photo, I love it. I had been shooting candid shots of "nekked" Emily and she decided that she was ready to turn the tables on me. She grabbed the strap of my camera and tugged it. She was ready to get her hands on this wonderful piece of gadgetry! I think I have a budding photographer on my hands!

Weight Loss: The slow, hard truth

Since hubby and I are both living a low carbohydrate lifestyle at the moment, we've been eating a TON of beef jerky. I love to keep it around for a snack when I get the urge. I've always had a sweet tooth and it's hard to satisfy that urge on low carb. I do keep around sugar free jello, but it's just not the same as a big ole hunk of chocolate. My kids like beef jerky as well, but there is a new sort of jerky that they love. Pineapple jerky is available online from jerky.com. Yes, you heard me right, a fruit jerky! I did have a few nibbles last night and it is out of this world. If you like pineapple then you've gotta give this stuff a try. Jerky a great snack for traveling. We had a play date Thursday and I threw in a few pieces of this for an afternoon snack and the kids were thrilled when I pulled it out. It's dried pineapple with all it's glorified sweetness with a touch of honey. It's naturally delicious and simply gratifying.

I've lost nine pounds in the last three weeks. I've also logged a fascinating 10 hours on the Wii Fit. I'm super excited about the progress I'm seeing, all be it slower than I am accustomed to. There's something about having three kids and being in your thirties that slows down the weight loss process. Anyhow I'm trudging on with happiness that I am at least seeing some results. Now, I'm off to find some beef jerky to nibble upon. I think I've flung a craving on myself...and since I can't eat chocolate, the jerky will have to do.

I took this shot because I loved the way the clouds looked like they were painted in the sky with beautifully brushed strokes. It's not as dominant in the photo as I'd have liked for it to be because at the time I didn't have a great zoom lens and I didn't want to get the neighbor's house in the photo. I got a new zoom lens last week and wouldn't you know it, it has rained almost every single day since. Beautiful weather to come, hopefully and I'll get to try it out! I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Thanks to everyone for playing along!!! If you've posted a sky photo don't forget to sign Mr Linky so others will be able to visit you easily.

To the parents of the fidgety kid...

Dear uncaring parent (or caregiver),

When I took my kids to the movies today, thank goodness we were watching a movie we already owned on DVD. Yes, I know this sounds ridiculous. In a way it is. But, the kids wanted something fun to do this afternoon instead of cleaning out self storage, so we went to the Dollar movies. It cost us a buck fifty to watch Bolt on the big screen.

What we didn't bargain for was you and your monster sitting behind us. Don't get me wrong, I know my kids aren't perfect...far from it in fact. When I am watching a children's movie at a theater full of children there is a bit of chaos to be expected. I cannot complain when I make it through a movie without my feet sticking to the floor from a spilled drink, or a lap full of popcorn. What does make me angry is when a child is doing something wrong and never gets corrected. My children and I were sitting one row in front of your previously mentioned monster(s). If they kicked my seat once, they kicked it five hundred times. I sat there for a long time thinking that the adult in the company of this minor would take some responsibility and correct the child from doing this. Apparently, you don't mind it when people kick your seat because you didn't mind that the child was kicking ours. I never said anything to you or your child, although I reeeeeeeeeally wanted to. I did, however turn around on two separate occasions and look at you both thinking that you would take a hint.

Since that didn't seem to work, I am writing you this letter. Maybe some day you'll stumble across this blog and remember that you took your children to see a movie and you didn't reprimand them when they kept kicking the seat of the wonderfully patient lady in front of them. My only wish is that next time you are enjoying a mouth full of popcorn you get kicked square in the back. Then, you might enjoy your movie as much as I enjoyed mine!

Sincerely,
The EXTREMELY NICE lady at the movie theater in front of you today!

You can't help but smile at this!!!

This is my little Emily Grace. She's almost 7 months old now. Time does fly doesn't it?! She went back to the doctor today because she's got a bad cough and runny nose again. The doctor assured me that it was not another round of RSV, although it could be triggering some of these things it is probably just allergies. We got some more meds to give her in addition to her inhaler and cough medicine. The poor little dearie still keeps a smile on her face no matter how much medicine we pour down her. I can't help but smile when I think that over a year ago I would not have ever thought I would be writing a blog post about my little baby girl. I never could have imagined being a mother of three children then, but now I could not imagine NOT!

Manic Monday - Wet

This might not be Niagra Falls, but I would imagine you could get wet if you wanted to. This is Blanchard Springs located in Mountain View, Arkansas. It is a beautiful place to visit and you can do some cave exploring while you're here as well as camping, hiking, swimming, and fishing! A getaway is always good for the soul. Getting away from the worries of picking out a POS system, doing homework, changing diapers, or whatever your day to day worries may be. Today is our first official day of Spring Break. It sure would be nice to be back there. Instead, I'm at the office trying to get our tax deductions added up! The deadline is quickly approaching.

Camera Critters - B/F/Fs

I captured this photo of Shelby and her buddy, Oscar the wiener dog last weekend as they napped. Oscar loves to curl up and get cozy with anyone who is still. He has a comfy little couch to lay on, but very rarely does because he seems to find a bed or lap to lay in most of the time. To see more critters, you can click the banner above.

DVD Review - Bolt

Now available on Disney DVD & Blue Ray, the action packed thriller Bolt! This was a much anticipated release in our home. Miley Cirus (a/k/a Hannah Montana) is a household name and when Shelby (my six year old) found out that she was "in" the movie she had to watch it. Miley is the voice of Penny, Bolt's "person". Bolt is voiced by one of my favorite Hollywood personalities, John Travolta.

Bolt is the star of the biggest show in Hollywood, but the only trouble is that he is the only one who doesn't know it. He thinks the whole thing is real. He thinks he can super bark, shoot lazer beams from his eye, and is invincible. Unfortunately when he is accidentally shipped to New York, reality sets in. He must find his way home to save his "person", Penny from the evil "green eyed man". Along the way he meets a witty cat named Mittens and his #1 fan, Rhino a hyperactive hamster who teach him that he doesn't need superpowers to be a hero.

This is a great movie for the whole family and it's packed with extras, like the short film of my favorite character, Rhino. There's also deleted scenes, backstage Disney, and music videos. Stop by and pick it up now. For more information on this and other Disney releases, as always you can click over to the Disney website.

Too Many Decisions

When watching a DVD, why does it take so long to get to the actual movie?! After the five or six previews that you have to either suffer through or fast forward then comes the menu. Some menus can be very easily navigated, but many like to get crafty on you and it's hard to tell what is play or what is the director's commentary of the making of the movie. My least favorite is when you have to choose whether or not you want to watch the extended edition of the theatrical version. How the hell am I supposed to know which version I want to watch. I just want to be able to put the DVD in, hit play and then sit back and enjoy the movie. Why is that so hard?

Now to put away my soap box and enjoy the movie...The Secret Life of Bees. More to report later.

DVD Review - Pinocchio

Now available on Disney DVD & Blue Ray is the 70th Anniversary Edition of Pinocchio!!! My kids and I were excited about this one. Pinocchio was always one of my favorite Disney classics. Can you believe that this movie debuted 70 years ago? Yes, my friends 70 years ago, the loving Jiminy Cricket belted out "When you Wish Upon A Star", my all time favorite Disney song.

I'm sure that there are many of you out there that have a VHS copy of this movie, but you'd be happy to know that there are tons of extras on the DVD release of this movie (and even more on the Blue Ray) such as deleted scenes, a song section where you can sing along to your favorite songs from the movie while the words appear on the screen (as if you'd need the words, right?). There's an alternate ending, deleted songs, and fun facts about the movie. To find out more about the extras and the DVD, click on over to the Disney Website. If you've not added this one to your collection, it is available now. Get to it!

*Sigh*... Not Again!

Emily is sick again.  I had Tyler in the doctor on Friday.  He had an ear infection and severe chest congestion.  Emily has had a little bit of a cough and a runny nose until today.  Now she has a full fleged barking cough.  It sounds like she's been smoking cigarettes for 30 years and is about to hack up a lung.  Her nose is running so bad I've been looking for the shut off valve all day.  Bless her heart, she's having such a hard time breathing that she can't eat much because it's hard to breathe while sucking through a bottle.  This little chicka (and her mommy) has had one rough winter.  I gave her a couple of puffs of her inhailer tonight and she screamed her head off!  As you can see in the photo, as long as she could play with it herself she was fine, but she did NOT want me to press it against her face.

The only way she can get any rest is to sit up to keep the cough at bay. Guess who will be sitting up with her tonight...okay, do you give up!  Well, hello there.  I'll be here all night, I'm sure.  Maybe I'll catch up on some shows I've had DVRed for weeks that I cannot find the time to watch.  That's a whole other post, though isn't it?

Plateaus and Office Visits

Photobucket

My b/f/f, Becca sent me this. I thought it was cute. I've been on a "diet" now since Monday. I've done the Wii Fit every day this week with the exception of yesterday. I was home with a sick boy. So far I'm two pounds down.

We had a doctor's appointment at 3:30. We were a "work in". We left the office at 5. The nurse said that by the end of the day they will have treated 68 children...just ONE doctor! That is a lot of sick kids. Anyhow, Tyler has an ear infection and some congestion, but not bronchitis or pneumonia, thankfully.

Please send me good thoughts so that I can keep on the right track to weight loss. :) Hubby is on board with me this time too, so that makes it so much easier for me to do it with his support and vice versa.

Happy weekend!!

Looking @ The Sky on Friday

The skies over Mountain View during our recent fishing trip were mostly cloudy and dreary, so I didn't get very many decent shots. But, I loved the look of the beautifully fluffy clouds in this shot! I hope you do too. I am finding myself with more and more sky photos in my computer memory due to the love of my new Canon Digital Rebel and sky photography! I am so glad that I have this wonderful group of bloggers to share them with!!! Keep looking to the sky, folks and link here on Fridays when you post a sky shot. Every week we're growing. Thank you to everyone who has participated and welcome to the new comers. We hope to see you back next week.

Oh where, oh where...

Latichia Black's Facebook profileDo you have Facebook? If so, all of the fishing pictures can be found on my profile there. You can click the badge above to get there. I haven't been online much this week. In fact, I'm probably going to be on a little blogging hiatus for a bit. I will still be posting sporadically, but there are things in my life that I need to be concentrating on and to do that, I will be spending less time online.

  • I started eating low-carb this week. So, I am really trying to lose this extra "baby weight" that seems to be hanging around and making friends!
  • Monday I worked out on the Wii Fit. It had been 14 days since my previous work out. It didn't even know me. It jokingly asked me if I was my daughter. So, my goal is to work out every day this week, and hopefully the next.
  • The time change is kicking my butt. I am exhausted. The weather is crazy, to say the least. Yesterday was 80 something. Today it's not going to get out of the 40s. We might have some snow tomorrow!
  • Sometimes people are jerks. No matter how many hoops you jump through or how much you bend over backward to please them, in the end they are still jerks! Stick to your guns, I say!
  • Tyler is sick...bad cough, runny nose. He and Emily are at the office with me today. So far he's: gotten water all over the place washing his hands in the bathroom, sprayed a half a can of air freshener, eaten a full a bag of pinata candy he got at daycare yesterday from a birthday party, and turned his baby sister upside down in her car seat. *sigh*
  • I am getting prepared for our annual visit with the accountant scheduled for next Thursday. Time is ticking and I've got lots to do. Please keep your fingers crossed for a good result for the taxes this year.
  • My sister is moving (back) to town. The school that her daughter is supposed to go to is full, so they will be having to send her to Shelby's school!!! I'm thrilled. I think the girls will enjoy so much playing with one another and hopfully I'll be spending more time with both of them!

Manic Monday - Full

A Net Full of Fish

Okay, it's not full, but we caught our limit. We couldn't have put anymore in it legally. We spent the weekend in Mountain View, Arkansas. It was beautiful. The weather was a bit windy, but overall it was nice. We had a wonderful time! Yes, Tyler wore his cowboy boots in the boat. I could not get him to put on crocks. Yes, they are still wet! *LOL* More photos and details to come. I've got to get the kids up and ready for school. This time change is kicking my butt already! Happy Manic Monday, my fellow minions.

Camera Critters - Beverly Hills Chihuahua

I cannot take credit for this image, this is Papi & Chloe from the new Disney DVD Beverly Hills Chihuahua.  Whether or not you are a dog lover then this movie is a must see.  These little guys are just too cute.  Chloe is a pampered princess and gets dragged to Mexico by her owner's irresponsible niece who lets Chloe get lost. The film follows her misadventures trying to get home and the case of characters she meets along the way is full of non stop laughs! My kids watched this movie before I had the chance to sit down and enjoy it. I heard Shelby crying and went to check on her and she was so sad that Chloe had lost her family and the "big dog was being mean to her". Tyler got a kick out of the thieving Iguana and Rat. It's a great family movie. I've seen it several times now. Jamie Lee Curtis is brilliant (as always). Drew Barrymore and George Lopez voice Papi and Chloe. These are just a few of the big names that are attached to this film. To find out more about the film, you can visit the official BHC site here.  To find out more about Camera Critters, you can click the badge at the top of this post.  Here is the official trailer for the movie:

The New Do

I took the liberty of visiting my hair dresser today. It had been over six months since I had my hair cut. It had gotten way longer than I like it to be. I ended up going with something different than I've had in a long time. I like it (I think). It's choppy and light. I think it's going to be a fun style for the summer. When I picked up Shelby from school I was met with approval, or so it seemed by the large sheepish grin she flashed my way as she spotted me. When we were driving away, her expression changed. She admitted that she wanted a new hair do as well. I called the stylist and she had an opening so I took her right over. Hers is not as short as mine but it is the same general style. She loves it. She spent a big part of the night flipping her hair from side to side! She's excited to go to school tomorrow. She insisted that her friends would not recognize her due to her drastic change! (insert dramatic eye roll here)
Brien and I are taking the older two kiddos fishing this weekend. Emily is spending the weekend with her Memaw and Papaw. I've got all of her things packed from the formula to the blankets, and baby bedding for the playpen. It seems like with all of the things that go along with a weekend stay over for a six month old that she just might be moving in!

Hey, where's my hair?!?!

Emily Grace had her 6 month check up today. She's growing and developing normally. She's developed what the doctor called "stranger anxiety" only most of the time this sort of anxiety occurs more often than not with family because they are usually fascinated with strangers. She cried when the nurse weighed her and then again when the doctor began his examination. She is normally overjoyed and full of smiles for them. The doctor was proud of this accomplishment. My sister in law does not share his pride for she is Emily's latest cause of anxiety.

As you can tell in the picture she's still searching for her hair. She weighs in at a whopping 16lbs 12oz. She's in the 75th percentile for her height but right in the middle on her weight. Her lungs are finally clear after a run in with RSV followed by bronchitis. So, we can put away the dehumidifier (hopefully until next winter). She got three immunization shots today and she handled it very well. She cried when the injections were going in and then gave the nurse the sad puppy dog face afterward, but otherwise she did very well.

My little peanut 3.0 is growing so quickly. It seems like yesterday we were bringing her home from the hospital!

***My FIL got the phone lines fixed at my house (THANK YOU, RAY!!!!) tonight by re-wiring the house. So, I'm back online now. Whew!!!***

Pardon me...

Hey friends, I just wanted to let you know that I'm having some internet troubles at home. Well, technically it's phone troubles which in turn causes internet troubles. Apparently the wiring inside the home has decided that it no longer wants to work. The phone company came out yesterday and the problem is no on their end. My dear father in law is going to check things out at the house and see if he can fix it for us. Keep your fingers crossed.  Have a great week, everyone!!!

Manic Monday - Waffle

Previous MMs
The Manic Monday Master

Two years ago we went to Hot Springs, Arkansas for a family reunion. We were lucky enough to have our family reunion at the historic downtown Arlington Hotel. Hot Springs is a wonderful place to visit, especially if you get to experience a bath in the Hot Springs. There are lots of things to do. We went during the heat of the summer, so we visited a small candy shop where they served ice cream in waffle bowls and cones. Of course we chose the waffle cones coated in chocolate. So, if you're taking a vacation soon, stop off in Arkansas and you can visit Hot Springs (and me!!) while you're here.

Can You Hear This Sound?

Train Horns
I was told by some teenagers who will remain nameless that they use this signal on their cell phones in school so that the teachers cannot hear their phones signaling. Very clever. I can hear the sound. I am 31. Listen to it, leave your age and whether or not you can hear it in the form of a comment. I'm curious to find out the cut off age.
